further north john - these falls are over 100m high and are often dry.

I haven't been to Wollomombi Gorge Tony. Looks impressive though. These falls are quite a bit further north in a WHA.

That's it john - I believe this area was saved by a big conservation movement in the 80s. The aptly named Protestors Falls are not too far away either.

A new camera john?
It is interesting to go back over old photos - my photo of Cape Schank was in 2003 and would have been from our first Digital camera.
[Of course I have a lot of prints and slides from before that time of which I have digitised only a handfull]

I think I have had about 5 digital cameras so far - the last 3 being DSLRs.
The change in picture quality and detail in that progression is quite remarkable.
However, as a practical tip, I now take most of my shots with a -1.0 exposure setting - specifically to avoid blown out skies.
The picture out of the camera is a bit darker over all, but even basic photo programs [like Microsoft Office Picture Manager] can auto adjust these to a more normal brightness without the clouds disappearing into a white haze.
For a competition like this one, spanning a lot of time - I will be using photos with vastly different quality.
I suspect I will not be the only one for which this is true.
Either that or I need to do a big trip around Australia to take all the shots again

I have read about the region but haven't been there. We considered visiting during a road trip to QLD but it didn't fit our itinerary for some reason. That and Mt Warning are still on my to do list (along with a lot of other things!).

Next is in NSW. Name the river and nearest town. Bonus points for naming the range or any peaks in the background.

Thanks for that eggs. I currently own 3 digital cameras (one not working) but all are small P&S models. I also have access to my youngest son's older Fujifilm model which is a "DSLR lookalike" that can shoot in RAW format. I really should borrow it more often as it has a lot of manual adjustment and reasonable image quality but is only 4MP resolution. I've toyed around with the idea of going DSLR but the bulkiness/weight is what usually stops me. Recently started thinking about the intermediate "prosumer" cameras as a compromise, like the Olympus Pen and so on. I might yet do one or the other. I usually do tweak the game (and comp) entries with Microsoft Office Picture Manager or other post-processing software to improve the overall image quality. But unfortunately you can only do so much (garbage in garbage out I guess ). If you improve the background/sky it often results in a foreground much too dark. I generally try to shoot at the upper aperture limit of my equipment (eg F8) with a lower shutter speed. I've found that usually gets better results, particularly in bright conditions. Thanks for the tip about the -1 exposure thing. The exposure settings are something I'm aware of but haven't really taken advantage of. I've been thinking of scanning some ancient photos from the 1970s, I shudder to think what the quality of those might be.

Re-taking all of the shots from previous trips sounds like fun!

Yes juju, Bellinger River near Bellingen it is (a bit further west than Fernmount - closer to town). Taken from the cabins where we were staying right on the river, picturesque spot. Did a couple of nice walks in Dorrigo NP while there. Over to you...

I think I know the cabins you stayed in.
Dorrigo has some lovely walks, especially from the Never Never picnic area.

Yep. Once I knew the Gib Ranges I found that one. I don't know when I last went there but I'm thinking 30 + yrs ago. My memory isn't that good.....

Yeh, Google was required for that one - I had initially narrowed it down to Washpool, Gibraltar or Cathedral Rock NPs.
I'll have to scan some shots so I'll be back in a couple of hours.

'The Needles' in Gibraltar it is - as you figured whilst i wasn't about...
after I posted the pic I looked to see how many 'Needles' there are (thought it may need a clue) around, and there are quite a few.
