February Plains & Hut

I have been consistently hearing about how good February plains is as a nice short overnighter with a Hut. With Mrs Waterfalls keen to do another overnight jaunt (and any other strollers who are keen) I thought I would start planning a trip in here. However I have no solid information on the area or how to find the hut. It has been described as a short walk of around an hour in...which in my mind presents a great basis for getting in early and exploring the area. Anyone give me some more solid track notes on this one?

I figure this and a night a lees paddocks will make for good winter walking to get Mrs TWF really keen on things.

Taswaterfalls,

I think the hut you mention is the one in the northern section of Feb Plains.

It is at 427649E 5383573N (AGD66).

It is marked on the Borradaile 1:25000

There is a track that runs just south of it and starts at 429139E 5384762N (AGD66) This is not marked on the 1:25000 though.

I have been told you can also walk to the north of the hut on a gravel track (Gated), but I have not done this myself.

well im dead keen to do it...however this weekend coming is Specs bucks doo...then his wedding on the weekend of 20th...i will have to work the 14th...so have to be a weekend after that....anyone else keen?

If you do go TWF, then maybe you can check the falls in Sardine Creek. (The map says they're are there!)

Regrettably 26/28th Sept is out for me, pomisi and SoaB as we will be on Cradle at Scout Lodge that weekend but I definitely want to do this one so keep me posted.

The hut marked on the map is not standing any more but there is one further down the plain, just follow the track that runs south-west. Access to the plain is either by a a track that comes up to the hut site from the north east or follow the old logging road (gated) south and then duck up onto the plain. Nice area, views from the Divide are nice.

Hi TWF,
Now that I have got my gear together to be able to do overnighters (thanks to many hours on this forum researching and
following dozens of links, - and also direct advise from a couple of forum members), I am ready to join the BWT Strollers
on a few walks.
After seeing your post I got the maps out, went to Tastrekkers blog ( excellent stuff Tastrekker,- I've got a few more hours to spend on there yet), and ended up on the Kosciuszco Huts site,- very interesting!
It sounds like a lot of fun exploring and trying to find the huts up there!- So please count me in.
I am very interested in starting to put navigation 'theory' into practice, and no better time than when there are some
experience walkers around.
I'll wait to see how the dates pan out, but I am very flexible.

Im far from experienced....a keen novice at a stretch maybe...but i do generally carry wine with me if this makes up for my lack of experience
