Tracks accessible via public transport

Postby martin.sk » Sun 26 Oct, 2008 11:51 am

Hey everyone,

We are going down to Tasmania in December for eight days. We are looking for a two to four day walk accessible from Hobart by public transport. We were originally thinking of a Cape Pillar Track but we can't figure out how to get to Fortescue Bay. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for anything.

Hi Folks,

The most frequent bus heads down to Port Arthur - http://www.tigerline.com.au/time-tables.php

As a last resort you could get off at Eaglehawk Neck and then walk to Tasmans Arch and from there through to Fortescue Bay via the Tasman Track. In December /January Fortescue is a pretty popular place and you may be able to cadge a lift from a local or a camper back to Port Arthur.

There is also a private service - http://www.twe.travel/05_transport/01.html - good if you have a larger group.
Cheers - Phil
