Mt Graham?

Postby Molly- » Wed 14 Sep, 2011 10:21 am

Hi there all! Hope everyone is awesomely well!
I'm looking at doing Mt Graham, but only with a day pack if that.
Can anyone give me some time frames on how long it takes at a reasonable bushwalking speed?
thankyou guys!

Hi Molly, we did the circuit as a daywalk in around 8 hrs, this included Mt Graham and Mt Freycinet. Mt Freycinet is a 45 min sidetrip from the track wheras Graham is 2 mins off the track.
So if you allow 8-10 hrs, and make an early start you will easily achieve the circuit if you travel at a reasonable pace. It was 31km including Mt Freycinet.
You will need to carry at least 2 litres of water for the day.

I'll second that, the circuit can easily be done in a day if you are reasonably fit. Mt Freycinet is worth the effort for the better view if you are making a good pace. The circuit would be better and not much difference time wise than returning the way you come from wineglass.

The sign at Wineglass Bay campsite says 5 hours return - I'd say thats about right. Carry plenty of water!

What we're doing is we're walking in on Saturday morning. From the Wineglass Bay lookout down to the beach and over to hazards. We will definately achieve this by lunchtime and are hoping to set up camp at the end of hazards beach and do Mt Graham after luch in the afternoon... wondering if its possible?

Interesting way of doing it. If I am not wrong (this is what I did when i did it as a day walk) you usually walk down the wineglass bay track and over freicynet/ graham then around or walk along the hazards beach track and across hazards beach. The best option is probably staying in the cooks beach hut to keep the weight right down if you dont want to do it in a day. Doubt the hut would be full at this time of year. Its a largish return walk from the end of hazards beach (maybe more distance than the full circuit?), very do-able but it would not be a choice i would make. Much better value to do the full circuit.
