Cape Le Grand Coastal Trail

Starting from the car park off Lucky Bay Road, Cape Le Grand, this walk lets you explore the western coasts of Cape Le Grand. You’ll be visiting Lucky Bay, Thistle Cove and Hellfire Bay. Besides the scenic beaches, you’ll have an option to visit Mount Le Grand as well. Embrace yourself for one of, if not the best coastal walk in Australia. Pristine white sand will warm your feet as you appreciate the vivid colours of the ocean. Crystal clear and welcoming waters combined with the panoramic views may make you take more breaks then you’ve planned to, so give yourself enough time to truly enjoy the trip. There's a campsite midway that can help you divide the walk in two days and make sure you experience everything you want to. Keep an eye out for sunbaking (Australian for sunbathe) kangaroos and join them if you’d like -- from a safe distance of course. Sections of the track may require you to do a bit of clambering over rocks. Depending on the time and conditions, waves can hit those rocks and make you feel like you’re on an even more epic journey. From its hidden coves to clifftop lookouts, Cape Le Grand is a great place to spend your day at. Let us begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From the end of Lucky Bay Road (Rossiter Bay Parking), turn right and drive along the singular dirt track for about 400 metres. Park here and head for the south-west corner of the car park. Get on the Coastal Walk Trail and start heading away from the ocean to continue along the Cape Le Grand Coastal Trail.....

	Start. There is a car park (about 15 m back from the start). After 3.1 km pass the "Mississippi Hill" (140 m on your left). After another 990 m come to the "Lucky Bay Lookout" (15 m on your left). Then find the "Lucky Bay Lookout" (15 m on your left). Lucky Bay Lookout Nestled among the rocks at a marked historic point is a fantastic lookout. Wooden stairs lead from the beach up to the lookout, which provides sweeping views of Lucky Bay and the granite headlands.
	After another 35 m veer right. After another 2.4 km find the "Lucky Bean Cafe" (20 m on your right). Lucky Bean Cafe During the summer months, look out for the Lucky Bean Cafe, a coffee van that parks up on the east end of the beach. The cafe offers a selection of espresso coffees, teas, fresh juices, toasted sandwiches and ice creams, as well as freshly baked muffins, cakes and indigenous bush damper. They even have chairs arranged on the beach so you can sit back and watch the clear blue ocean while enjoying your order. After another 105 m find the "Lucky Bay" (35 m on your left). Lucky Bay Located to the west of Esperance, Lucky Bay forms one edge of the Cape Le Grand National Park, a unique preserve of relict landscapes, flora and fauna. The western headland naturally breaks the wind, making the waters usually calm. Lucky Bay was scientifically proven twice to have the whitest sand of any Australian beach. This was done by gathering sand samples from several beaches across the nation and shook the long-standing claim of Hyams Beach at Jervis Bay to have the whitest sand. Samples had to be collected from the top 10cm in the "active zone" between the water and the dunes. Based on a visual assessment, Lucky Bay was the unanimous choice as the whitest beach ahead of nearby Hellfire Bay and Tallebudgera Creek Beach in Queensland, while Hyams Beach was ranked fifth. Then pass the "Lucky Bean Cafe" (15 m on your left). T:+61 418 913 414 After another 105 m pass the "Lucky Bay Cookhouse" (70 m on your left).
	Turn right, to head along Lucky Bay. After another 20 m find the "Lucky Bay Campground" (25 m on your left). Lucky Bay Campground The large campground at Lucky Bay is ideal for spending a couple of nights under a star-filled sky and strolling along the moonlit bay. You don't need to move a muscle to get some panoramic views as the campsite offers a great angle on the bay. As a plus, fellow kangaroos can give you a visit and make your day better. The camping area is equipped with a variety of tent sites, cabins and caravan parks. Facilities include picnic areas, toilets, solar-heated showers and a camp kitchen equipped with burners and a gas barbecue. There is no drinking water available at the campground, so you will need to bring all your potable water with you for your stay. Campfires are not permitted in the park. Advance bookings are essential and can be done through the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions' online campground booking system. You'll be able to pay the camping fee and the national park entry fee at once if you book online. Upon arrival in Cape Le Grand National Park, you must show your booking confirmation to the ranger.
	After another 200 m (at the intersection of Lucky Bay & Lucky Bay Camping) turn left, to head along Lucky Bay Camping.
	After another 140 m continue straight, to head along Lucky Bay Camping. After another 90 m pass the toilet (65 m on your left). After another 40 m come to the "Lucky Bay Campground - Cape Le Grand National Park" (35 m on your left).
	After another 60 m turn right.
	After another 225 m turn right.
	After another 1.8 km turn left, to head along Thistle Cove Road. After another 20 m to find the "Thistle Cove".
	After another 15 m veer left.
	After another 4.4 km continue straight. After another 460 m pass the toilet (25 m on your right).
	Turn left, to head along Hellfire Bay Road. After another 10 m turn right. After another 20 m to find the BBQ.
	After another 4.4 km continue straight. After another 1.8 km come to "Cape Le Grand Campground (Cape Le Grand Beach)". W:parks.dpaw.wa.gov.au There is a fee to use this campsite.
