Would that be Y-fronts? Woollen shorts? Silk shorts?
Not trad, but I wear merino wool shorts from Macpac or Icebreaker.

Dry quick too.
I'll go out on a limb & say leech & tick proof too.

Yep, but in 9" (though I am 6'4").
They do develop a bit of a stink but such is life in the bush.

They do exactly what you described. Avoid merino like the plague for this, tried some Icebreaker Merino briefs, it was a disaster on a long rainy day. I've found out that when I don't have a clean Arc'teryx pair of briefs to wear left, going commando is the next best thing indeed... I also always pack an anti chafing cream, but on my last journey hiking every day for 2 weeks in Canada I didn't need it because it was on average 5-6 hours walking per day. On long 8-9 h day hikes, it becomes necessary.
