Just because all the trees are bent one way doesnt mean the wind will only come from one way, and when it doesnt it come from the expected direction it wont be gentle breeze.

Some more

1. Mother nature is never consulted when maps are published.
2. When rock hopping in full pack always double you estimated walking time.
3. Water crossings are always deeper that they appear.

When looking at a map and compass, and the words "That can't possibly be north!" escape your mouth, you should have said nothing.
(ie, like last Saturday - thankfully we checked BEFORE getting too far from our intended route. :-) ).

Never argue with 5 blokes who are using GPS especially if they are "bigger and younger" even when you know you are right with your navigation because you are the only one who has been there b4

Never hurry down a mountain . Especially when it's wet.

You can't judge a bog by its colour.

Why they're called the Beggary Bumps. They're so hard on your clothing and gear you look like a beggar when you come out the other end and by the time you've paid for knees and shoulders to be reconstructed you're reduced to genuine beggary.

My main issue is the left knee. It survived the walking, and then crumpled under me climbing the one flight of stairs from the ferry garage to the reception desk . . .

It doesn't matter if the rock Col just stood on didn't move, It WILL move, roll ,sink, turn to ice or possibly all of the above the second I put my foot on it and yes I WILL sudddenly find my left leg submerged in a river :x

Never question the old timers who say that they once needed a 3 foot thermometer with the zero at the top to measure the temperature during a storm.

If you start to fall over and see that you're going to land in a scoparia bush, don't put your hand out to save yourself. Unless you were going to land on your face.
