Looking fo some advice

Postby Rykon » Mon 26 Sep, 2011 3:41 pm

Hi everyone

I Apoligise if this is the wrong section or i am breaking rules by asking ( i did read them but not sure)

I am just looking for some advice on where to go and such.

I'll give you a bit of background

I am not a expereinced walker by any means i only started bushwalking again the past 1-2 months and they have been on fairly easy trails with maxium return time of 2-3 hours, i have picked this up becasue i my new partner we both like the outdoors but have mainly been walking on non or very light bushwalking trails.

We are looking at going away over the weekend and staying the night (better not having to camp as we do have the equipment but it is not the best) and are looking at doing some walks.
we are both from the hobart area.
We are looknig for some longer trails as we both are quite fit but again don't have the best experince.

So what i am after is sort of a long day walk (can drive up the night before or early on in th morning) that is quite a good look but will give us enough time to make it back to the car before sundown.

sorry for the long confusing message but i am just trynig to give as much infor as possible.

And thank you very much to anyone that replys.

Try Mt Field, perfect for someone in your situation, plenty of options and close to Hobart, the visitor centre has info on all the common walks there.
The circuit from Lake Dobson along Tarn Shelf and down to Twilight Tarn/Lake Webster is a great walk.

If you are fit there are plenty of options on well defined tracks that do not need much experience, the weather at the moment rules out cradle mountain etc though. Freicynet circuit, adamsons peak, south cape rivulet, collins bonnet and trestle mountain, hartz peak, wellington falls circuit (amazing :)) and wedge are all good options. To do the freicynet circuit in a day you want to be starting early. All are well defined and easy to follow, wedge the start not being as obvious.
Recent Peaks: Snowy South, Ben Nevis, Victoria, Blackboy, Bastion

A very interesting walk but one that requires reasonable fitness is Lake Skinner in the Judbury,Ranelagh area (near the Snowy Mtns Trout Hatchery.

You gain and lose a lot of altitude in the day but it's a beauty once you have some confidence up. In bad weather it can be fierce up top but it's worth it.
