Upcoming trip to WOJ

Postby Lizzy » Fri 18 Nov, 2011 10:01 am

Hi, am planning the finer details of my upcoming trip to the Walls Of Jerusalem. I will be arriving on a Sunday and was hoping to avoid going into Launceston. Can anyone tell me where I can pick up gas (screw top stove) on a Sunday on the drive between the Launceston airport and WOJ? I also need a parks pass but should be able to get that at Mole Creek (please correct me if I am wrong?). Any other tips/hints/ suggestions appreciated.
Cheers

You should be able to pick some gas up from bunnings, its not that far from the airport.

Lizzy, I doubt you'd get one in Mole Creek, there isn't a lot there (unless you meant the NP visitor centre for the caves? - they would have them but it's a side trip). I'm pretty sure you can get them from the visitor centre in Deloraine, which is open 7 days. But I'd contact them to make sure. Deloraine is the last practical stop off point for most things en route to the Walls. Good coffee/lunch spot, plenty of shops/cafes and a Woolies supermarket for any last minute/forgotten items. Have a great trip, you'll love it up there :).

Thanks for that :)
Jared: Will check out Bunnings- I'm pretty sure they don't stock them up herre but maybe they are are more bushwalker friendly down south!
John: Just found out Deloraine Parks office is only open weekdays so may have to detour to the Caves or go via Launceston (if that one is open?). Can't wait to get back to Tassie and finally up to the Walls.
Cheers

You can buy your parks pass online. That would save you time.
I've tried to buy gas in the country towns before without luck. You may need to go into Launceston for that.

Hi Lizzy, it's not a Parks office. See the link below. It still says open 7 days and I'd be surprised if that's changed. Would be worth a phone call or email to confirm and that they still issue parks passes. Might also be worth a search on the forums re the gas. I vaguely remember someone saying they had found a stockist in Deloraine (could be wrong).

Lizzy (may be a bit late but) make sure you pack some warm gear.
The weather is very mixed at moment and snow is predicted and temp ranges 18-0.
Its almost snowing here now and there would defenitely be some fluffy stuff about higher up.

Never the less you can be sure there will be some treasure monents as the weather does its thing and passes onto its next stage.
Enjoy the trip.

Thanks guys- not down there yet so will definitely pack some warm gear. Actually I am waiting on my new WM Apache sleeping bag to arrive :) :)
I might end up just popping into Launceston first to get gas etc. Will definitely report in after the trip.
