WOJ Water Quality

From previous posts I gather that the water supply at Wild Dog is OK but may vary at Dixson's? Can anyone give me an update re this as I won't carry the Steripen if not needed?

Hi Phil

Anecdotally - you don't take water from the area around Dixon's Kingdom Hut. Even while we were there a foreign hiker camped next to the hut got a bad dose of gastro. This area has been well occupied over time - and it is likely not all have adopted best practice.
However - we took containers and got water from the tarns on the way up Mt Jerusalem, and I believe the water is good just over the other side of the saddle headed towards the Valley of Hinom. Both are not far from the hut.

Been To WOJ Twice, stayed at Dixons twice and always used the water from the creek there, no probs at all.
If in doubt drop in a tab.

There are toilets at Dixons Kingdom now. Not sure how long they've been there.
I suspect the toilets will do a lot to resolve the past issues with water here. I remember finding a rather unpleasant Mr Hanky in the forest not far from the hut once, some people are just lazy.

I recall a stream further up the track towards Mt Jerusalem (before the bend to the right), and I have taken water from there before without problem.
There sure was a lot of water up there last weekend, rained for 24 hours.

I was also up there last week....plenty of water as Tasadam said (& lovely to meet him & fam on the track ). Had a steripen but as usual it buggered up so just drank water untreated from taps at Wild Dog Creek and streams toward Mt Jerusalem. No problems for us thankfully.

Thanks all for your replies, gives me a clearer picture. I suppose the bottom line though is that there are still a few places left like Tassie where you still "CAN" take water from streams etc with confidence!
