Hi all,

Am planning a day walk into the Walls of Jerusalem on the 29th of January, & was wondering if anyone had a decent & reasonably accurate tool for weather prediction.??

Any help would be very much appreciated.

weather forecasts have been discussed on this site to no end, pretty much impossible to get a decent forecast over more than 4 days out. Your best bet would be to get up on the 29th, and look out the window.......

I dont trust any site other than the BOM one..... they give up to 7 day forecasts...

6?? Wow!! I have 4 chooks, get 4 eggs each day usually, struggle to give them away!! Dont know how i'd cope with 6....

The BOM reports are pretty good for the next day. So since this is a day walk you can just check on the day before the trip. if the forecast looks seriously bad for the plateau then spend the day at Freycinet or Cape Huay instead.

Just keep an eye on the radar as well. I've never been able to predict the weather any more than 5 minutes ahead of time anywhere in Tassie, days where its sweltering in Devonport, I've seen it snowing up there, so your best bet is to just keep watch on the radar, and out the window of course.

If you're on the north coast, if Mt Roland is cloud free, you're probably in luck.

I was with him for 2 of the 4 days, and we saw about 7 all up, 5 tigers and 2 whips. I believe they saw a few more on the first 2 days also....

I would have easily seen a dozen, only one tiger in the main walls area though, this was at Dixons. Most of the snakes I saw were around Lake Adelaide and Ball, and a few in the Lake Myrtle/Rogoona area.

what do they do? They turn and move away? We saw one..on the gravel road on the way out...musta been to many peeps around for them!

They generally flee downhill, sometimes they don't react at all though. Just give them some space and everyone is happy and no one gets hurt

Yep, that has always been the plan. They say 95% of peeps bitten were trying to interfere with the snake...

About the only thing you can be sure of is that there will be weather when you are up there. We walked out at the weekend and both the temporary poo... at Dixons were chokkers - ie up to the bowl, and there were heaps of people about because of the school hols. They will be gross this weekend if they haven't been "serviced". Not a Ranger to be seen.

Saw a number of White lipped snakes and a couple of tigers but no probs.

We walked in from Lake Ada via Talleh Lagoons, Lake Antimony (Hut 5) and the Bernes Valley. Trout fishermen at Lake Ada were using the lake edge near the boat ramp as a toilet - I've never seen such a disgusting sight.

Chapman's notes say to keep on the northern side of Pine River after Lake Antimony, but the pad past Lake Sonja on that side is overgrown and heavy tea tree. The southern side of Pine River would give a much easier and pleasant dawdle up the valley.
