Road Access to Richea Creek Track

Postby paulpeakbagger » Tue 17 Apr, 2012 12:50 pm

Does anyone know if Range Road has been cleared? When i went to Lake Rhona over the Christmas New Year break the road to the Richea Creek carpark was blocked by a tree fall about 3 kms before the carpark. The tree was across Range Road before the junction with Terry Walsh Road.

Apparently it has been removed Paul:

I thought there was talk of Parks removing the log crossing across the Gordon tho (meaning fair weather crossings only)...
Where are you off to?

Stu,

I was finding this out for a work colleague who is going there this weekend. I don't have anything major planned in the next few months. I had a big Summer of walks (Chinamans Plains and Mountains of Jupiter, Denisons via Mt Wright and Stepeed Hills, Mt Giblin and Folded Range, Gallagher Plateau and Cradle Mountain to Tullah (including Granite Tor, Quartzite Tor and Mt Romulus). I just got back from Easter on King Island and will now mainly do day walks until the June LWE.

Yes, the days are rapidly getting shorter now.
Your trip from Cradle to Tullah sounds very interesting, I have yet to visit those peaks.
Ditto on the day walks; car camping trip in early July (5-7 days) out west should see a few summits in the bag...hopefully.
We did the Manfred / Cuvier / Byron circuit (again for me) over Easter (via the scrubby Manfred Plateau); my intention was to get to Goulds SL but we were beaten by the weather yet again on this one...maybe via Lake Petrach next time.

The road has been cleared. I had no problems getting through in late January.

Ive heard from Norske Skog that the Florentine Road will be closed from 11 April until April 25 for bridge repairs on the Florentine Rd.
The contact number for more details is 0408 122 784.

Also PWS will not be removing the tree across the Gordon River as it falling over was a natural (if not incredibly lucky) event.

Cheers

I spoke to Norske Skog last night and the gent informed me that the repairs might be delayed for a day or two which puts me in a bit of a pickle as I was hoping to be hiking on the 27th. Does anyone has any experience with access to the Terry Walsh Road carpark from between Wayatinah and Ouse?

The bridge is officially to re-open today Tuesday 1st of May if anyone is monitoring this.
If common sense is so common, why don't you see more of it?
