Freycinet peninsula

Hi im a scout and i was thinking of taking some of the others on the freycinet peninsula circuit and i was wondering what to expect because the group has a few new guys around 12 and i was also wondering what food you guys would recommend and the stops that we could take.

It probably depends on how long you planned on taking and how many you were taking. You'd want to camp somewhere where there's water so either side of the peninsular would work. The south end of Wineglass bay or the south end of Cookes beach. If you were going for 2 days I'd say walk the Western side the first day and stay at Cookes beach and on the second day go over the peninsular and back via Wineglass Bay. If three days I'd do the same but camp at the end of Wineglass Bay for the second night. As far as food goes if I was cooking for kids I'd take something easy like eay mac with dried peas and corn or/and soup and weetbix for breakfast and museli bars or wraps for lunch. That's my sugestion anyway. Hope it goes well. It's a great walk.

I was down that way the other day and there was mention somewhere (??) of controlled burns and the place being closed for walks.
Not sure when you trip is but might pay to check with Parks.

Anyway it worth the effort which isn't much really.
I took my young kids there some years ago. Ages 7-11.
We walked to Cooks Beach and then up Mt Graham and back down to Wineglass Bay.
Don't remember too many grumbles but they were used to walks.

How jam-packed is this area likely to be on June long weekend?

Not to mention constantly moving!

And not structured to cope with people climbing up and down them. It's a basic rule of coastal walking: keep off the dunes as much as possible.

n-n-w were you never young ?? kids doing that there will never result in any damage (other than to kids) where has your your sense of fun gone.

yea a bit late we ended up having a few jumps off the dunes and it was actually really fun not to mention it didn't hurt unless you landed on your butt.
