UTM Grid Ref for Walls of Jerusalem Car Park

Postby Son of a Beach » Fri 28 Sep, 2012 11:09 am

Does anybody have a UTM grid reference for the Walls of Jerusalem car park? Preferably with AGD66 or GDA94 datum (please let me know which you're using if you can).

I'm just testing out a new method of converting between various spatial reference systems in one of my apps, and that is one popular spot that I have a waypoint for in this app that I think others may also have for comparison.

Thanks in advance.

Thank Phil. Looks like similar values to what I got for both datums.

My values are a bit different, but by the same amounts for both datums. This could be accounted for by the accuracy of the readings and by the size of the car park.

No worries - also remember that most GPS's are only accurate to about 10 metres anyway so its likely to be close enough

Hi SOB

I have been uploading tracks and huts into OSM. The method for huts and toilets is it take waypoints of the corners and the ramps around the toilet and then align Bing maps. Also now using the averaging feature on the Garmin 62s and giving it a chance with clear view of the sky. Lake Mackenzie area is pretty much aligned using such techniques. Have a look if you like. In edit mode you can bring up the GPS coordinates.

As in Australia WAAS correction is not available so as Tastrax writes about 10 metres is practical accuracy but with averaging waypoints the precision can be much better than that. In fact so good in open areas to not walk off cliffs but in valleys the 10 metres is rather optimistic accuracy.

Happy to send through GPX tracks and waypoints if you require.

Cheers
