Hi I have started a new thread specific WOJ. We decided on a 3 night walk to WOJ with our kids over the show day weekend...weather permitting!

So I have bought the Tasmap WOJ map and am try to work out an itinerary. The track seems to stop at Dixons. Is easy enough to walk to lake ball hut to effectively do a circuit back via the junction lake track?

Any suggestions for itinerary and where to camp?

Very easy to get down to Ball, there is a 'pad'. For 3 nights I'd stay at Dixons 2 nights and Lake Ball for a night. If the kids are struggling you could stop at Wild Dawg Ck for the first night.

I would avoid Wild Dog Creek if you can. I know a lot of work has been done there but I still think it's a bit of a pit, and it's not far from there up to Lake Salome where it is an easy walk to Dixon's Kingdom. like SbS said I'd stay there in amongst the Pencil Pines for two nights, then mosey down the vale to Lake Ball. Nice historic hut and great little campsites.

We're looking at doing something similar soonish - and wondered too regarding heading to Lake Ball from Dixons Kingdom to make a circuit.

One of my early walks through the walls took us to Dixon's Kingdom then down to Lake Ball and along its northern edge past the hut and down to camp at Lake Adelaide - return via Lake Loane.
A great loop walk.
The western end of Lake Ball is worth a good look - an amazing area of water/floating plants.
You might find a few leeches near the campsite at Lake Adelaide, but that probably varies a lot with time. It was many years ago when we were there, but the sunset over the lake was memorable.

Is there water available near Dixons?

Also if we did decide to stop short and camp at wild dog creek ...how on earth do you set up your tent on platforms?

4 hrs with a toilet and fuel stop longer for food and coffee.

There's a small creek that runs past Dixons Kingdom. Not sure about the setup at Wild Dog Camp. There are usually cables or nails to attach tent guy lines but I haven't used those platforms. I do remember seeing a water tank and toilets so it's a fairly decent spot to camp.

They have wire ropes like on the OLT. A few spare pieces of cord and some cup hooks can help.
A few rocks can help with the set up

this place is a magical wonderland and the replies so far are concise. easy two nights could be spent around the wild dog creek area, exploring.
