Mt Murchinson and Lake Herbert

Will be doing my first solo walk in November, any advice on track condtion of Mt Murchinson and if I will need my navagation skills fine tuned, reading about it is looking straight forward?

The track is good and easy enough to follow, just keep your eyes peeled as it could be easy to wander off the track looking at the scenery!! Have fun and take your time to enjoy the walk as it's one of the best daywalks in the state

Also need to tear your eyes away from the view and onto the track at times because it's narrow and slippery with Big Drops in a few places.

We found the Mt Murchison walk easy to follow, great views. Enjoy. Lake Herbert also a great walk, can be very muddy, recommend gaiters!

Do you have a clear idea of where you are going?

Lake Herbert is not on Mt Murchison but is some distance to the north on the much smaller Mt Farrell?
Are you planning 2 different walks?

Anyway - this is a rough idea of where the track goes up Mt Murchison [its not from GPS tracking]. The exposure is sidling the ledges above the hanging lake near the top.

I'll be doing it on November 9th (unless there's a massive storm), so if you do it later than that you'll be able to read my report on track conditions etc...

It makes for a good day, Murchy in the morning, then the Farrell and Herbert loop from Tullah in the afternoon.
The last bit of the pad to the summit of Farrell is a little faint and scrambly in places, but it's still easy going. Nice little climb straight down to Herbert, too.

Thanks everyone for your replies, planning on spending a few days in the area so Murchison one day and Farrell the next , also hoping to catch a few fish in Lake macinstosh or Lake Roseberry, so either way if I come out with no fish sounds like I will have some speccy views to take in- Hallu I look forward to your report I will heading in after the 9th November.

Hi Claude,
When you are at Lake Herbert, have a look for the Tasmanian Tree Frog Litoria Burrowsae
There was a good population at the lake during the 70's / 80's.
They were grey in colour, & a good size, sitting on the rocks at the waters edge & plopping into the lake as you approached .
If you are fishing from the shore at Lake Mackintosh or Lake Rosebery send me a pm
