Christmas Presents

Bushwalking gear and paraphernalia. Electronic gadget topics (inc. GPS, PLB, chargers) belong in the 'Techno Babble' sub-forum.

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Christmas Presents

Postby Kinsayder » Wed 26 Dec, 2012 1:16 pm

I thought I might start a thread on the spoils of Christmas Day.

I scored a Western Mountaineering Antelope sleeping bag, a Black Diamond Orbit lantern and a Sea to Summit X-Plate! Pretty happy with happy with these.

How'd everyone else go?

For xmas my parents have offered to sponsor half the cost of my new custom alloy trekking cart. The problem is I haven't told them how much it is yet

I got it from my wife, just like I got her a handbag: She's never seen the tent, I've never seen the handbag :)
But she is pretty supportive - she's agreed to give hiking a go herself, so hopefully I'll be able to start getting out more with her.

I got A walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson _ great story nearly finished on Christmas Day.
Tasmanian Summits to Sleep on by Kevin Doran - wife wont tell me how she got it signed, it has a personal note from Kevin to me. I am bewildered, he comments on me climbing Feder, so she has only just got it organised.

In my household, I buy myself handbags (Spencer and Rutherford is my favourite brand)
I also buy the tents!

I bought him a Magellan 710 GPS (after we got lost (aka took the wrong path) in the Blue Mountains)

I usually end up walking tracks by myself becuase my superfit husband refuses to walk to my pace
My Christmas wish would be that he is appreciative he has a wife that likes to go bushwalking at all, and that sometimes he'd slow down and actually walk WITH me!

Merry Christmas and hope you all have a healthy, happy and prosperous 2013

Shelly

Ipad for me from hubby and a huge Roman explorer 9 extended tent from my parents. We got to use it over Christmas (including the massive southerly storm that pushed up the NSW coast and did all sorts of damage) and it was brilliant. Didn't even flap or move in the three storms we had whilst away. Highly recommend for the family camping palace :-)

A massive spending spree to take advantage of Macpac discounts saw us with a new Cascade pack (killed my other one with the help of critters), a Glissade pack to replace my wife's Esprit which is about 8 years and many walks old, a day pack for her, two swishy newly released Macpac packs with MSR bladders for our mountainbiking, a number of stuff sacks, pack liners, and some smaller items such as bladder, Nalgene, snow seal etc.
We spoilt ourselves, though the biggest ticket items were needed.
