TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

i dont think it tends to be such an issue in europe. there are so many places you can stay in formal accomodation like in nz that prepare your meals for you or provide cooking facilities and food.. so your weight can be less by default. i was reading a blog buy a scotsman who reviews outdoor gear. he doesnt think much of most american gear, small hoods with flimsy brims that dont cover you enough in really bad weather, jackets more designed for walking the dog in mild weather, short arms, and made for overweight bodies.... he thinks the european lightweight gear ia a lot better, they dont cut the weight at the expense of functionality in bad weather...
from the land of the long white clouds...

We can learn a lot from crayons. They come in different shapes and colours, but they all have to live in the same box
