I posted on Mountain Laurel Designs facebook page what the white material is, so far no one know's, other's are curious as to what it is as well. Should know soon, once Ron wakes up. It might be a trade secret, he might not want to inform.

I'll let it rest today and not subject it to our harsh QLD weather just yet. And my niece just had a baby, so I might have to head out soon for a visit to see her new baby boy.

Success! Looks like tyvek, nylon reinforced cuben perhaps? Looks like he's still trying different things, I did see a post about the zig zag stitch on some obscure blog site, stop the seam blowing out.. It's a bit hard to see what's what, raining ? Nows the time to see if there's any leaks

I can get my Macro gear out and take some closer detailed images if you want Nuts. Let me know, what you want to see close up and I'll take them now.

My computer had a big drink of coffee this am, so it's the phone again for now I might be able to get a better look when I can get a bigger screen, something tells me it won't be a cheap fix.. Probably best when it's pitched I'm just interested in the various joins vent seams etc. I imagine he has worked out the stress points by now.

Is the stitching covered with tape, perhaps what the silnet is for?

I Plan to pitch the Duomid in the morning. I don't recall seeing any tape over the stitching. You might be right with the sillnett, but I read online sillnett is not required on the cuben Duomid.

yeh, the 9 month wait would be a tester. Does it count, my niece had a baby yesterday and my younger sister is due end of May. Lol.

My images are not to far away, I just have a few images to take for Nut's with my Macro gear. I might upload a few images, I have here ready and upload the rest as there ready.

Phil, how do you find the pole extender nests in the walking pole? My BD's have a similar circle of plastic at the bottom and I wasn't sure if it would be very snug...

There's a bit of wobble, but not as much as I expected. my poles are long enough to not use the extender, but the extender works so well, I decided to use them, the ground is a little soft, the extender helps the poles not dig into the ground.

I was going to use my Macro gear, but I think it would be to much, My macro gear shoots a grain of rice full frame.

That's it for now, I'm going to lay in my new shelter now, with my iPad. It's about to rain, so this will be a good test.

The last image you see here, I followed Ron's suggestion of pitching the back lower than the front of the Duomid.

What that white fabric is, I don't know, this is all that Ron had to say about it.

The old black reinforcement material was good but then the supplier made a bad batch of black that we caught right away and so we switched to the white because it is stronger and the adhesive is superior to any we have seen.

I'm surprised that the white material seems hand cut. Not that it would effect strength, just that I would have thought that given the pressure on production at MLD, it would be quicker to have it batch cut than hand cut it.

It appears that they sew (the tie-ins or whatever) to the white material and a piece of Cuben and then bond that Cuben to the Cuben fly. That makes good sense since then there's no compromise to the main Cuben layer.

Raining today, actually it's been raining for the last couple of days.

Got my two shelters out in the rain checking for leaks etc. I've only pitched the Duomid in the last half hour and I've had one light shower, more rain forecast tonight. I want to see if setting the duomid this high will work with the inner. Best to test these things out at home and not out in the field.

I had my doubt's with the flooring on my GoLite, but so far it's holding up.

On my latest images I posted, I noticed the pitch is not as good as the first time I pitched my new Duomid. This is only the 2nd setup. I loosened the guy-lines a bit and moved the pegs further out, this rectified the sloppy bottom on the Cuben Shelter.

Rain has picked up and so far inside both shelters is dry. Even though theres more room inside my GoLite Shelter, I much prefer the Duomid, There's stacks of room inside it, more than enough for one person. Set the Cuben shelter up once and forget. No need to readjust like I had to with the Golite shelter. As most of you probably know by now, Cuben Fiber don't stretch when it's wet, not like silnylon does in the rain.

I think I over-engineered mine. There will be reinforcement patches left when the rest has disintegrated.

So which of the two would you prefer, all things being equal (i did the sums to build that SL3 in cuben and it would only be marginally heavier).

Which of the two I would prefer?
It would have to be the Cuben Duomid. I do like the size of the GoLite Shangri La 3, but the duomid is more than big enough for one.
I much prefer Cuben over silnylon. The duomid is a lot easier to pitch than the Shangri La 3 and a lot quicker.
Cuben is more waterproof than silnylon.

A SL3 made of Cuben, Probably might be a bit of a challenge to pitch. You would need perfect placement of pegs for a Cuben SL3 as there's no stretch in Cuben.

Vege garden is for winter, to hot up here during summer to plant anything.

Its raining, laying in my Duomid with my iPad typing to you all and i have a few drops of water dropping beside me. Water is leaking through the patch shown here with all the sewing in it, will need to silnet when dry. Its the spot you questioned about Nuts.
Its only leaking when it rains heavy. At one stage I was getting drips once every 30 seconds or so. Its on both sides.
