March Long Weekend. The Walls ... again. Since the early 1980s I've walked in, around, and via the Walls of Jerusalem at least 8 times. But somehow I'd never got to Solitary Hut on Tiger Lake before.

A few of our party had tried and failed, but this time we had it marked on the map, and entered into a GPS. But the great part was that one of our party used to weight train with "Solitary Man" - maybe 35 years ago. We eventually found the hut, and then heard some great stories from our mate Jeff about the old days with "Doug", the Solitary Man. We topped it off with a brilliant swim in Tiger Lake during a cracker of a thunderstorm (literally!)

Of sorts, tigercat. The fireplace is rough and low, and there's a dodgy-looking metal hood, very close to the fire, that I suppose funnels most of the smoke out of a metal flue. Given that the flue is open at the top (pic below), that it's in a fuel stove only area, near some precious pencil pines, with peat soils everywhere ... it looks a risky kind of bushfire proposition all-round. Might be okay in winter I suppose.

Ah, see Whynotwalk, cant avoid the "Brokeback" allusions just yet!

It was there, what, 18months- 2yrs ago when the Strollers found it. I remember a bit of a feeling of awe when I finally was at the place that a person had spent so much time to build and live at that I had read about. Nice walk too.

Yes Phil. At first I thought it was a BBQ, except it had no fireplace Quite nicely constructed, but a little way away from the hut. Some good campsites nearby too.

I first visited solitary hut in 1996 and have been back every 3 or 4 years since. It's still in good condition and our entry in the log book from 1996 was still there last time i checked! Once spent a night there too. Was very cosy camped in the roof bunk. The walk out from the hut to Trappers hut is also a nice alternative exit from the walls.

Love Huts but just felt that I had intruded on one mans reconciliation to what ever ? I guess that it will be visited to death now.

I always felt sorry for that bloke.
Sorry about his plight and also that he had to leave. (that was what I was told).
Bit like Corvus. I just wished him/it (hut) left in piece.

Yeah me too. Let's be honest though, it's a bit of a dump, I can't imagine wanting to sleep in there. Sentiment aside, maybe it should have been pulled out. The builder may not even care?
