TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Good, Lightweight 2 person tent?

Postby j_ak3 » Tue 02 Apr, 2013 1:47 pm

I'm looking for a good 2 person tent 3-4 season, but i'm not willing to spend a bucket-load on one, i was thinking the Hubba Hubba or something in that price range, any other suggestions?
currently i have a one person tent (because i walk solo) which is just perfect for warm nights +10 and above, it only weighs a kilo and compacts small, but if it is even a cool night condensation is a huge issue (not a lot of ventilation in it) and the vestibule is tiny - now realized why it was in clearance!

thanks, Jake

Hubba Hubba, Mont Moodance, One Planet Goondie, Black Diamond Vista are all pretty similar tents really, see which ones you can get inside of locally maybe? Generally they are all well venilated (possibly too well ventilated).

As is the standard response to these questions. Have a look at Tarptent - others will give specific recommendations!

Love my Hubba Hubba, like the side openings, like that it is free standing without pegs, like that with foot print you can put fly up with out inner, like how easy it is to put up and like that with heaps of use it still looks new !! I am a happy camper.

Yeah, the Scarps are roomy, lightweight, really easy to pitch and very good value. Get the crossing poles with it and it can just about take a tornado. They breathe pretty well, too.

What do you call lightweight as the Scarpa 2 is 1.7 kg not exactly lightweight, they have others in the range that are 1.1 kg, thats more like it but don't know what any of them are like. Terranova and Easton make some lightweight tents in the 1kg range too

1.7kg is lightweight for a 4-season, 2-person shelter.

Yes LW is gone even lighter now but really those 1kg or so two person double wall tents are still called Ultra Light and are all much smaller than the Scarp2.
For example look at both the floor area and the usable space of these two :

The first shelter is the Easton Kilo2 Ul, peack height 89cm.
Obviously if the Kilo is big enough for you and you don't mind the single vestibule entry point than it can be a better choice...

This.

I have a hubba hubba and a salewa micra both excellent tents around that weight ish. Just get whatever is on special imo..

I also have an Easton kilo 3p which I'm starting to love so the 2p would be worth looking at if you want something lighter.

I have a Hubba Hubba V6 which has a full mesh inner, one windy August night in Namadgi I swear it was colder in the tent than outside the tent.

Arguable. But reasonable for the price.
