This is the Osprey Talon 44 M/L.

Torso size is 47.5 but hop is 90cm.

Bordeline between S/M & M/L for torso but the S/M said for hip under 81cm only.

Dies this look like good fit?

really need a side on shot showing wher the top of the shoulder straps anchor,
from what i can see it may be too long the shoulder straps look to be attaching a bit high. but i can't be sure from the angle you've provided.
you'll have a better idea when you load it up to see how it sits, if you have it empty its easy for the pack to ride too high making it look like its too long and coming too high on teh back. the belt should ride over your hip bones with the top of the hip bone below the top of the help belt
usually they should be able to drop a bit where the attach to the pack and you have "load lifter straps to adjust how close the pack pulls into your back and that can vary depnding on whether you're going up or down a steep hill.

if you bought it at a shop it helps to have the shop people size it and fit it for you with some weight in it.

No expert but looks ok.

Shorten the adjustment at the top of the should straps - will reduce the feeling that the pack is pulling you backwards by bringing the weight closer to your body a bit.

How much weight do you have on your shoulder straps? Aiming for 80% ish of the weight on your wait straps.

I also look for good/even contact of your back with the lumbar pad - helps to get the weight onto your hips comfortably.

assuming its sitting correctly on your hips, i'd say it could be a bit long for you.
my packs i prefer the shoulder straps to anchor into the top of the pack at below my shoulder height and yours anchor right at the level of your shoulder height., it makes it a bit harder to keep the pack snug against your back without pulling the straps too tight

Is the C/L of the hipbelt right on the midpoint of the pelvic girdle? To me it looks like it is riding a little high

Top of hipbone is halfway down in the hipbelt pad.
I am anatomical male, so my hips are lower than female. My gender changed years ago.

Most weight is at the hips.

Pack & load weight is just over 6kg.

The store recommended M/L when I gave the details including 47cm.torso, 90cm hip circumference.

The main shoulder straps attach to the pack just slightly below the shoulders, its hard to see in the earlier photos.

ok but looks like there is a thick flap in between you and the strap at teh back thats being pulled forward by the strap angle...
my packs attach lower than that , i'm wondering if the design there is to attach lower so teh strap angles up more and doesnt force the flap forward

Looks too long to me. I'm not sure of the theory, but I always think the strap should hug your shoulder all the way over and down a tad. Kinda like this pic (I've drawn in red the current situation as it looks to me).

The other thing is how narrow it is between the shoulder straps. It looks like it's rubbing on your neck - that would annoy me and could chafe on a long walk I would have thought?? Also I find it puts load on the angled muscles between my head and shoulders (trapezious?) and they get tired/sore after a day or two

Mine looks like this and is super comfy. Note hugs shoulder all the way over and no where near my neck. But I am not you, fitting is a very personal thing and what works for one doesn't always work for others.

great observations, the shoulder straps touching the neck shouldnt happen if the straps werent attaching as high up as they do in relation to your shoulders...

The padded shoulder straps joins the pack about halfway between.the red & the light blue one.

The pack.is designed as ultralight or halfway to minimalist.

My top of hip bone aligned with centre of the hip pad.

The bit about sore trapezoid muscles I think I've been having that with, ironically my older but still in use crapmandu pack which was fitted in store and I grought in my body measurements. To prevent error, I had the to take my body measurements.

I think I am around 18.5" also and I have a Talon 22 in the M/L but have it adjusted to the shortest setting. Sometimes I wonder if it is ever so slightly too long, but the S/M was absolutely tiny on me as I am a large build.

At the top where the shoulder straps attach with the velcro, what position do you have them set to?

Strider, the harness velcro mounting is in.the default position. Straps attach about 1" or a bit more below my shoulder with arms by my side. Seems a good fit, so far used to more heavily padded packs I was keen on going minimalist so chose this pack as best price, lowest weight, recognized brand, etc.

My sternum strap and the lower shoulder straps & hipbelt seem to be all in the right places.

If you were to adjust the pack's straps to drop the packbag about 2.5cm further down your back, the whole thing should fit a little better. Doing this will also allow the harness to settle properly across your shoulder girdle, thereby reducing the 'gallows' effect on your neck (your sternum strap sits where it should, but I feel you might be cinching it a little too tightly).

Finally, you'll likely find adjusting the fit far easier if you load the packbag with about 5kg of 'stuff' first.

You had a Talon 22 so you should be familiar with how this attachment works Wayno. Looks normal to me.

Are you talking about adjusting at the webbing on the lower end of the straps, or bringing the harness adjustment up by one position?

Both would likely help, however, I principally had in mind the latter. Adding weight to the packbag during the adjustment process will cause it to settle towards the hips, which will ordinarily require a loosening of the lower end of the straps in any case.

Also, you cannot use the sternum strap as a guide for fit. As it is height adjustable.

You don't say? My point was that the sternum strap was in the right place for a woman (i.e. immediately above the breasts), but that it appeared to be cinched too tightly. Consequently, it was drawing the shoulder harness straps closer together thereby adding to the overall 'gallows' effect. (Sternum straps should be worn fairly loose; their principle function being to keep the harness from sliding off the shoulder girdle when the body is in motion).

I'm doing hipbelt first.
Shoulder straps next & sternum strap-just to be snug-last.
Load littered terminate higher than.the shoulder on the pack.

I adjusted the harness position so no birds can be seen (it has 3 birds)

I visited a store and tried same model both in this size and lower, the verdict with staff assistance was go to the M/L.

load it up, take it for a walk, then adjust the shoulder straps, take it for another walk and compare the comfort...

As a general observation more than a few people have the pack hitched up high on their hips and when it rides down find too much weight on the shoulders. Male hips tend to be straighter so tend to more prone to this. It took me a long time to accept that my pack hip belt was lower than I thought it should be.

Also light weight harness can be a challenge to fit and should not be overloaded. I prefer a heavier pack with a harness that suits me rather than a lighter pack. But then again I am probably at the extreme end of pack fit statistics.

I took the pack, with weight of around 9kg including 1 litre water & 500g food on a walk to Acacia Flat from Govetts Leap. That's a 4/6 Steep track with elevation total loss over 600m. Camped overnight then left via the steeper Perrys Track. Total elevation gain 600m approx. Feels like I'm a greyhound. Bit sore below. Neck but I don't hike too regularly, but less so than my store-fitted Crapmandu Carrot X-pac that's 1kg heavier.
