TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Don't know if it has been discussed yet, but here's a link to Petzls new reactive lights due out in sept.

They look awesome.

That would be right. Just purchased a Tikka XP 2 ... might just have to have a "spare" :)

I like the rechargeable idea.

For anyone looking at head torches, I'd still highly recommend zebralight H series. H51F for camping, or H51 for night hiking. Single AA is just so much better than 3AAA (and if you carry spares, it's 2 batteries vs 6). Runtimes are unreal on lithium primaries.

But they only go down to 7 lumens. I love the 0.2lm and 2.4lm modes on my Zebralight H51F and they are by far the most used. The 7lm mode isn't really useful - tooo bright for up close, and too dim for anything else.

Anything with a red light and rechargeable Im buying straight up. Recently purchased a Black Diamond Storm and just saw the rechargeable version, Petzl has always made great head torches in my mind so cant wait to see if these come with a red light or even diffuser.

Edit: Just saw a Youtube video and it looks like the TIKKA® RXP does have a red light, choices choices.
DoubleEdit: The Black Diamond ReVolt is the BD version, very similar to the Storm except one less battery (3AAA instead of 4AAA in the Storm, 4 is so annoying) and 10 more lumens. Can recharge via USB and still use normal batteries, which apparently the new Petzl versions can not without the little external battery pack/charger thing.

Red light becomes a non-event once you have the lower levels of white light at your disposal.

Just got my black diamond revolt, it's perfect IMO couldn't be happier with its size/weight, power and features.

Thanks for the link kanagra boyd, Interesting to also see their new ice screw range after black diamond has been tramping all over petzl as of late in this arena.

Their ice screw sharperner is also a first and I'm keen to give it a shot.
