Advice for Wine Glass Bay newbies.

I have camped in snow and walked the freycinet peninsula loop twice et........ I am looking to take my 65 yr old mother, My Wife 40 yr and my 9yr daughter and 11yr son to wineglass for an overnighter and it is their first trip.

Whilst I have done many overnighters, I have never taken my family whom I trying to build up for a OLT walk. Any tips or advice to make it more enjoyable would be appreciated. I have 2 x 2 man 4 seasons tents, but mum will need to hire a mat and sleeping bag. Any success tips?

If you want them to have a positive experience make sure they are comfortable. You should definately give mum the good sleeping mat and carry most of the weight yourself. There's nothing like being crushed under a heavy pack when you're not used to it to dampen your spirits.
Other common sense things when it comes to comfort like adequate shoes, rain protection, warmth enough of the right kind of food.
Stop to 'smell the flowers' and enjoy the family time.
My mum passed away recently so I missed the opportunity to do this but am planning a similar immediate family trip.
Have a good time. Maybee pick a favourable weather window to make it even better.

Bring some 'luxuries'
Comfy thick mat, make sure they aren't cold.
Carry the heaviest stuff yourself (we do this for our kids)
Warm socks
Nice food, chocolate, some nice wine
Miso soup as sooon as you get into camp, then cook dinner
Something comfy to sit on (foam or blow up sit pad, or a small lightweight stool)
Moisturiser and a mirror
Don't rush

Where will you be staying?
The campground is only down at the end of the beach, but if you are going as far as Cooks Beach I'd be wanting to change your mind.
There is little to no water at the campground, there are tanks at Cooks.
I found a small trickle flowing, from memory 10 or 20 mins south of the campsite, this was in March 2005 so memory may have faded plus time of year can make a difference to available water.
Others may have more recent intel on the water situation around Wineglass Bay campsite, or check with the Parks office.

I'd carry water to Wineglass Camp, the creek there isn't good drinking water. There is year-round reliable water 3/4 of the way up Mt Graham, but that is a bit of a trek. Cooks should be fine this time of year though.
