Moses Creek Track onto Junction Lake Hut

Postby philm » Sat 01 Jun, 2013 1:48 pm

Can anyone provide me with an update on the directions / condition of the track from Mersey Forest Road to Junction Hut via Moses Creek tack then Cloister Lagoon Track to Junction Hut.

Distance is 9.9 km on the map - how long will this take? 5 hours?

I have heard the track is well marked to Grail falls but after this the track is hard to follow is this correct?

To Chapter lake, grail falls, between 2 and 2.5 hours from memory. Track is well marked. We missed the turnoff to chapter, and followed the track to Cloister for 5 minutes before realizing our error, it was also well marked at least as far as we went.

Don't reckon 5 hours is to far off for 10 ks.

The only section I found hard to follow was going north from Junction until the saddle before Cloister. Pads going off in every direction and no markers - but that was a couple of years ago, it may have changed. Southwards would be easier, I think.
10 hours of fairly casual walking would do it easily, I would think.

Even if you miss the "track" it goes down a valley and you cannot miss Junction Lake however just keep your eyes well open there is a track :)

I did it with moderate snow after Chapter Lake a few years ago and didn't have too much trouble finding the route. The only issue was falling through the snow drifts.

Great thanks everyone - travelling South looks reasonably straight forward. The track is also marked on the Cathedral topo. Funnily enough the track is not marked on DuCane at the Junction Lake end???

I walked out from Junction on the Moses Ck track a month or so back and the way is quite obvious as far as the turn off to Grail Falls. After that less so but still reasonably easy to follow. We left the hut at 7:00 and were out at the end of the road at about Midday. Poured rain the whole way.
