Stove fuel in Launceston

Postby matto » Mon 17 Jun, 2013 3:22 pm

Hi everyone,

Can someone please tell me a place in Launceston where I can get fuel for my pocket rocket on a Saturday afternoon? I fly into Launy early arvo where I will be staying the night before getting a bus to the start of OT early on Sunday morning. I really need to find somewhere to get a couple of cans on the Saturday. Our hotel is pretty central I think.

Or can anyone suggest an alternative option please?

Thank you all!

Paddy Pallin
Allgoods
Mountain Designs
Macpac
Anaconda
Rays Outdoor

All have fuel available and are all within walking distance of the centre of Launceston( Mall). Not sure what time they close on a Saturday though.

Many shops in Launceston CBD seem to close at 2pm, your timing may be a bit tight. I will be in town tomorrow - probably going to MD at least, and that's very close to 2 or 3 others - so could check some and let you know if you wish. If so, let me know exactly what fuel you need.

If things are going to be closed when you arrive, one of the Launceston members might be nice enough to grab them for you prior to Sunday and you could perhaps collect direct from them?

I second that, it was also cheaper than the fuel I picked up in Devonport, so if you end up getting it from them you shouldn't be price gouged - that surprised me quite a bit.

Best to call ahead and make sure they'll be open when you hit the trail.

Stove fuel might be cheaper but the car fuel was $2 per litre, the most expensive I have ever seen

Glad to read you were well organised for fuel :)
In and around 1969 ? I drove my trusty FC up to Cradle with what I thought was plenty of fuel in the tank ,wrong! not enough left to the next closest re- fuel source big drama
I decided with trepidation to approach the Resident Ranger who castigated me for being a *&%$#! fool but recognised me as fellow ex Para and I know who would have no doubt treated "civies " any easier

Arrive at 5 or 6pm at Launceston next Wed, have organised transport to and from with Tassielink(?) I don't really pay much attention unless I'm organising it, do what I'm told.

Was just going to grab metho from a service station if I can't get gas, I was told by the accommodation that Paddy Palin drop some canisters off for people occasionally. I'll do some ringing around tomorrow

G'day Noob,
You will be lucky to find metho in any servo down here that I am aware of ,there are a couple of shops up in the Cradle Visitor Centre area and I suspect they stock Gas and may well be "open" when you arrive there so ringing around is a good idea especially those shops :)

this should do the trick from paddy's Launceston website.

Ask us about our fuel delivery! We can drop fuel and fuel canisters to your hotel or hostel for early birds walking before shop hours. So even though you cannot carry fuel over on aircraft, you can have it ready to go when you land!
