TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Black Diamond Speed climbing packs

Anyone in here have personal experience with these packs, in particular the 55 ?
It weighs only 1.53kg and ticks a few boxes for me, but I'm wondering if it sits too high for climbing.

no but i have an axiom 40, has the reactiv harness as well. i find it' sits fine on me, but mine comes in two sizes, i'm 511 , got the medium size... its at its limit for me... they sized me in the shop for the medium...
anyone selling black diamond should have a sizing measurer to work out what size pack you fit..

Thanks Wayne.
I'm 5'9" but my torso sizing puts me into a large according to BD's measurement scale.
Bivouac have them on sale so a bit hard to try.
The 55 looks good, it was just the height I had going through my mind.

any reason why you want the speed? if you get the infinity 50 or 60 its 200gm more and you can adjust the back length, the hip belt can be moved up and down

Mainly because it's purely for climbing, the Alps, the weight's good and Bivouac's price is good ($239)

I can get an Infinity 50 for AUD224, so not much difference.
It looks ok to I must say.

if the side pockets prove a hassle, they could easily be cut off. the back pocket is less likely to get in the way but you could get rid of that if need be as well... its handy having the added ability to change the back length

I think you need to get a life away from BD.

Wayne, an excellent pack, sits beautifully and should do exactly what I want it for.
