Ugh, I'm killing myself looking through this thread again. Might be in my final year, but I think I should just quit uni and become a professional bush hermit...

I've got a couple more, this is one of the best threads on this site. So enjoyable to see all the great spots to pitch a tent.

Shelf Camp not softest spot but what a view.

Is that what it looks like, Norts?!

Best and worst memories of shelf camp - we had about 20 secs of seeing Mt Anne emerge from the mist, glowing deep orange in the late twilight, before she disappeared again. Absolutely stunning, and one of those lifetime memories.

We didn't get much sleep that night though, as the tent seemed at risk of shredding. And we kept having to get up to push back large rocks around which our guy ropes were secured, that kept moving...

I must get back there to try again one day.

Ah - Doogs.
This is not the "Where am I" game.
Is this on top of the Frenchman?

And since my posts were from 2011, better update it.

I camped at Lake Judd one night earlier this year. I had originally intended a day walk, where I would walk to Lake Judd and back, then car camp near Edgar Dam. I had tentatively planned a longish hike at Mt Field the following day. After a quick drive to Red Knoll Lookout for a view of the Western Arthurs and Lake Pedder, I drove back down the road and saw a bloke at the side of the road preparing for a bush walk. Something compelled me to stop and have a quick chat. I am glad I did. The fella was a local about to walk up Alpha Moraine for one night to get some photos in the morning, and when I mentioned I was going to Lake Judd for a day trip, he suggested I do an overnighter if possible, since the morning was forecast to be a clear day, and that the cliffs around the lake would be spectacular at sunrise. I decided to change my plans for the next day and follow his advice. And he was right. It was a pretty special spot to camp.

That settles it! Lake Judd has been on the list for some time (along with a lot of other places I must admit  ) so first free weekend with reasonable weather I AM going.

Thanks for the motivation. Just got to organise myself now.

Here's a cheeky one. Just room for 1 or 2 small tents. Sunrise/set makes the discomfort worth it.

That's a ripper Doogs. I've wanted to camp there for ages.
This one has to be in my top 10 for sure Gould Plateau. Grandstand views to High Dome, Manfred, Cuvier, Byron, Olympus, Lake St Clair, The Traveller Range, The Acropolis and the DuCanes. Amazing!

Oh and we had an aurora just after a perfect sunset...

From Thursday night, Mt Counsel summit in the Bathurst Range. Views from PB to Frenchmans. Top 5 high camps for me of all time, such a remote feel...that's a light from a fishing boat near Maatsuyker Island. Blissful!

Thanks Phil. Rare conditions and the satisfaction of sleeping on a summit that eluded me on a past attempt made it all the better.

Been a while since this thread had any action, which is sad, easily one of the best threads on here.

Don't think I've posted this one:
