Help. Where is This?

Postby DJohnson » Sun 01 Dec, 2013 8:27 pm

I need some help. I have acquired three beautiful old large (40cm X 50cm) B&W pictures of various Tassie locations, which I plan to get mounted and framed. I can identify where two of them are, but this one has me stumped. Can anyone help?

Taken from the air heading towards Mt Anne perhaps? Looks a bit like the lonely tarns, Sarah Jane and the Arthurs.

It looks like Mt Lot and Lightning Ridge in the foreground, Lake Judd and Mt Sarah Jane in the background

Yes Pazzar confirms my suspicions.

I was going to post this photo to compare.

Excellent. It was always my first thought that it was lightning ridge - but I wasn't convinced. Couldn't get my bearings correct. Thanks for your help.

They are part of series of aerial photographs of the Tasmanian Wilderness taken by Jim England. I remember the Sydney branch of the SW Tasmania Committee had a set of about 20 of these pictures. Jim later produced calendars of his aerial photographs of the wilderness. For those he used colour photographs.

Agreed. Western Arthurs spanning the background, Mt Lot right foreground. The black and white is deceptive but Lake Judd can be seen between Lot and Sarah Jane.
