Sorry - not the Ironbounds - not sure if I will ever get there, not high enough on my priorities.

A little more specific tasadam
What mountain am I on?

Hint - name the peak on the right and what is on the coast just to the left of it? [You will need to enlarge the image]

Argh, now you're making me work.
I know the lighthouse out there near Friendly Beaches, I have some photos of it. There's a good walk right round it.
I now have to go find something that names the peaks of the Hazards for me...
OK

OK I cannot find my Freycinet map. So I am gonna have to have a lucky (or unlucky) guess at Mt Amos.
You can just see the lighthouse at Cape Tourville.

To make it clear, you are on Mt Amos and it is Mt Dove that you refer to in the image - it is slightly higher than Mt Amos so I figure that has to be it.

I'm pretty sure you need to move west one mountain Adam. (The advantage of 3d on Google Earth).

If that's the case you better name it and get one right - Google Maps won't name them, the 250,000 map I have only names Dove, and I know Amos from a Hazards search.
And I cannot find online any other maps, and I don't use Google Earth - yet...
Google Maps topo view shows the mtn to the east of Amos as being higher, and the mtn I now as being highest in the Hazards is Dove, so I would have stuck with my "on Amos" guess because of the photo posted - to the east is a mtn higher than the one he is on.
Over to you. :)

On second thoughts you are correct. Mt. Amos looking across sleepy bay. That is Mt. Dove to the right and just a little bit of Mt. Parsons closer to the centre.

It is either one or the other Amos of Dove, but lets say you're close enough to go again.

Well having missed probably the only chance I had of getting one right a day or so ago (Trial Harbour), I'm happy to throw yet another online map site your way. :) It's a bit tedious, and the data is 250k, but it might help. http://mapconnect.ga.gov.au/MapConnect/

Could be the north end (297m) of Mt. Parsons on the Left, putting you on the lump between that and Mt. Dove.

And I cannot find online any other maps, and I don't use Google Earth - yet...

What about The List map. http://www.thelist.tas.gov.au/listmap/listmap.jsp?llx=607162.1783676046&lly=5332453.306766165&urx=609802.7310569051&ury=5333609.467&layers=5&disabledlayers=

It is Mt Amos - well done tasadam

Sorry - I have finished my walk now.
Mt Amos is curious as it consists of a bit of a basin with rock ridges in 4 corners.
Apart from Mt Dove, all the rock you can see is part of Mt Amos.

walkinTas - maybe Google 3-D can be misleading?
Mt Amos is a tough walk which is very steep granite in some parts.
It was particularly tricky this day as it warns the rock is slippery when wet and I went up with sandshoes instead of boots.
With the odd shower (as you can see in the photo) parts of the walk become treacherous - like being on ice.
But I survived.

ps - nice website photohiker

Correct Dave, your go.

No telephoto eggs - you notice Barn Bluff and Oakleigh in the photo - it's 50mm lens which equates to 75mm being a digital with 1.5x factor because of the sensor size.
Anyone that doesn't understand that, don't worry about it, just say 75mm...

I was curious to see whether anyone said what am I doing at Pelion Gap after sunset?? Mid winter too!
Back to Pelion hut by moonlight then headtorch.
Just to share, here's an image from Pelion Hut a bit later that evening - 8:50 PM, 28th June '07, moonlight, star trails, 18 minute exposure...
The whole darn day was perfect!

Re: Game - "Where am I ?"

Its OK tasadam

I understand about 75mm equivalent = Slight telephoto
I was using an 18-125 mm lens when we were last at New Pelion, so I was probably put off by my photo being wide angle
Just checked - it was at 23mm [eq 34] vs your 50mm
the photo I got in trouble for was at full 125mm [eq 187mm]

Did you catch the answer re your peak vs bra shape = High Dome. Dave Nobles latest slide conversions has a few silhouette close-ups of High Dome
Now how do you let Dave know it is his turn?

Re: Game - "Where am I ?"

Yeah, it sure looks like the eastern face of Geryon. At first I assumed Windy Ridge Bert hut, but the mtns are too close so I assume he must be in the forest somewhere between the hut and the cliff face, or maybe up the track some more and zooming in.
If no-one beats me to it, I'll have a look through my photos of the area later and see how it compares for angle etc, then put my proper guess in. Though he does say "not too hard perhaps" so maybe it is somewhere obvious?
They are impressive peaks aren't they?

This one brings back more memories.
On my first trip to Tassie one of our walks was into Pine Valley and up onto the Acropolis.
It rained the whole way into Pine Valley, and we walked in along the forest route (in those days there was also a route along the valley floor, but I think that may not be in use now?)
It was around sunset when, having found the hut completely full (floors and tables all taken for sleeping :)), we were checking out the tent sites.
This took us out of the forest for the first time and it was then I saw Geryon close up for the first time that day - a dramatic iced up wall of rock towering up with cloud captured in the lee side swirling all around. Absolute magic.

From what I remember it looked just like this photo only colder and a bit more distant, but I suspect Dave has zoomed in a bit for this photo.
OK I have dug out my tiny little slide and I can even see the same trees in it!
So my guess is just out from the forest near Pine Valley hut, looking past the edge of the Acropolis towards Geryon.

And Sundays are even quieter than Saturdays - as it should be!
Including the server going down?

Well done Eggs - you have got it right.

This was taken from Pine Valley - about 50 m down the valley from the helipad. Not many people realise how good the view is of the Acropolis and Geryon from this point. And its only a minute or two from the hut. I didn't realise how good the view was until I decided to do the "Valley" track rather than the "Forest" track (there were originally two tracks to the valley. The Forest Track was generally a lot drier and preferred most of the time. The Valley Track had a number of crossings of the creek to negotiate - and these could be tricky and deep. Also if interest - the old track to the Labyrinth also went from near the helipad - and started with about 150m of terrible bog - very hard (impossible?) to keep your feet dry! I think the new track to the Labyrinth went in when they upgraded the hut. Both tracks merge pretty quickly.

Unfortunately i have not managed to get to Pine Valley since that first visit.
My wife insisted we do the entire Overland Track and due to time constraints we went on to Echo Point instead.

Anyway, thankyou for putting up the photo Dave. Great memories.
This one should be fairly easy.
