NeverNeverUpdatePlease?

Postby GraemeSpedding » Fri 03 Jan, 2014 6:06 pm

This time I think I have placed this post in the correct forum.
Just wondered if anyone had an update on conditions in the Never Never and if there are any new log crossings upstream of Mc Coy - I think my old one will have been washed away by now. I am traversing from Hartnett Falls to Junction Lake, staying on TRUE left hand bank until above McCoy
Cheers

The old crossing was still there a fortnight ago but the northern half was under water. The new log crossings are 200 metres downstream. Use the downstream pine trees to cross. The pine log is easy to use but the gum tree log upstream is much harder. I don't have the coordinates at home but they'll be online somewhere. The crossing is easy to find from McCoy Falls if you stay close to the river bank, which is the easiest route anyway. If you reach an open grassy area you have gone too far and reached the old crossing. The choice is wet feet or going back.

Well....we found the track up to McCoy Ok and went along a nice pace, given the hot and sweaty conditions. Beyond McCoy i thought I would see how scrubby it would get and spent some long extra hours making our way around the under the scrub. So lesson learned. Cross upstream of McCoy and then there is good foot pad ( which I have used before coming downstream) and the going is much easier. Next year i Plan to come down the NN and exit the OT via Kia ora/ Pelion and Arm River.
Cheers Once again
