Accommodation in Hobart?

Postby Humpo » Mon 29 Jun, 2009 6:17 pm

After we do the the OLT in December we will be staying one night in Hobart before moving onto Port Arthur.
There is 9 of us so we are looking for a cheap hostel or hotel in town.

We will be picking up a rental at avis at 125 Bathurst Street. So if its near there that would be a plus. And near a pub that would be a better plus.

I hoping to get away with $60 each.

Any Ideas or recommendations?

Check out Quest Trinity House they have 4 bedroom apartments and it is not to far from the Pubs and I think your $60.00 per head would cover it ?
Just a thought :)

We stayed at this place that has backpackers accomodation and regular rooms- it was like $90 for a room that would sleep something like 7. Best deal I've found to date. Quiet and decent. Leisure Inn Waterfront Lodge, 153 Risdon Rd, Newtown, 1 800 060 954, http://www.leisureinnhotels.com

They look really nice- tucked right into the bush, but I haven't stayed there. Lemonthyme Lodge is another likely place to stay.

When we go exploring in the north east we often stay at the Imperial hotel at Branxholm.

$55 double including breakfast. Well located too.

Just for the record, I'll add this one that I have used a few times before heading into the SW. The accommodation is basic backpackers style in dormitories, up three stories, but the bathrooms were good and clean (especially after 9 days in the bush!) The pub meals were excellent as well, and located in the heart of Hobart is nice and central. Bed rates back in 2008 were $29/night, and pub meals in the $12-$20 range.

Corvus , a bit late with reply but the ASTOR as eggs suggested was great when we stayed in Hobart. Tildy is the Manager and she is excellent and they cater for bushwalkers in surprisingly good quality rooms . They also do a good included breakfast. Hope this helps . Steve C

Thanks for that info, always wondered about the Astor and now that I am a self funded (that means no funds) Retiree I will be checking it out for my next trip to Hobart :)

Thanks for that we ended up at the Quest Trinity House. Great looking with a laundry so we can wash or gear before moving onto Port Arthur

Humpo as a group what did it cost per head and regrettably however as just a couple I think it well may be above my cost limit now albeit it is a nice place to stay.
