Denison Cct

Postby north-north-west » Wed 09 Apr, 2014 10:46 pm

I've been looking at doing a circuit as mentioned in the Abels book - Rhona, Bonds & Reeds, Great Dome, Stepped Hills, then across to Wright and back out. Anyone here done this and have some advice on just how bad the scrub is both north and east of Stepped Hills? Or any other first-hand information?

Better PM, this probably qualifies as 'sensitive off-track'.

Yours truly did this circuit a few years back with MJD, Stu and ILUVSWTAS. You won't like Bonds summit but the walking on The Denison tops is a delight. Crossing to The Stepped Hills is scrubbier than it looks, you probably won't enjoy this bit however we got from Rhona to within half an hour of SH summit in a day. Crossing to Wright isn't too bad, lots of buttongrass. The circuit took us 4.5 days at a relaxed pace with 2 nights at Rhona. There is a report of sorts on here somewhere and if you snoop my FB albums you should find it.
A very excellent circuit :)

Thanks. Should have done a search first but couldn't recall seeing something about this specific route.
What's wrong with Bonds apart from the Abels essay insisting that reaching the very top is beyond the normal walker?

Nothing. That is all. Long way to go and not take the points....

You should have asked MJD to bring his stepladder.

And you reckon I won't be able to do it? Now you've set the challenge I'll have to get up on top even if it kills me, just to prove you wrong. :P
