Lady Lake and Ironstone Huts

Mon 13 Jul, 2009 9:08 pm

Can anyone tell me how many people these huts can sleep? Are there reasonable campsites nearby if the huts are full already?

Cheers, Wello

G'day Wello, the lady lake hut has bunks for 6 and a loft for maybe 1 or 2 more. There is reasonable camping nearby.

Can't help with Ironstone.

Would be good if this link had this sort of info.
Seems many members have been up there, but a lot of the posts I found in the gallery have old and dead links to photos.
It looks like there's plenty of camping around. There might be some help in this topic.
Good luck.

Haven't been to Ironstone Hut for around 9-10 years. Back then, it slept around half a dozen. There was room outside to pitch a tent or two.

Yeah, Ironstone could sleep 6, but it would feel VERY crowded, as it's a very small, and rather rough hut. Lady Lake is much bigger and nicer.

(Ironstone, being stone, looks a lot nicer from the outside, but Lady Lake is much more comfortable inside and on the deck).

Sorry, I did have some photos of both online, but my website is in the process of being redesigned, and all my photos have been removed, for now.

Probably should have mentioned that when I was there all those years ago, we were a group of five and one of the group chose to pitch his tent and slept outside the hut because he thought it was a bit crowded.

Ironstone will sleep 4 comfortably. Any more and you would be sharing bunks or sleeping on the table. Floor is a bit rough.

It seems like there is space for a few tents at Ironstone hut at Lake Nameless as you can see here

We went up to Ironstone Mountain were there is also a small hut nearby, there was not a lot of space however to put up a tent because of rocks and bushes everywhere

If we are talking about the hut accessed from Western Creek then four is the max unless you are very friendly and light as the fencing wire on the bunks suggests innovative use of available materials. The table? Norts you must be considerably lighter than me (no hard) else the floor would be your eventual resting place and for me one achieved a lot quicker

Cheers Brett

I would not even suggest four people sleeping in that hut maybe two. We went there 2 weeks ago and the buks are kind of falling apart and the fireplace was filled with water. Yes and you'r right he would need to be a lot lighter to sleep on that "table"

Picture of Lady lake hut taken late 2007 - it was a well appointed, clean hut and would sleep 8 comfortably.

Are you folk talking about Ironstone hut which is fairly new and is at Lake Nameless , or do you mean Whiteleys hut near the Western creek track?

I was most definitely referring to Ironstone Hut at the southern end of Lake Nameless in my comment above.

Thanks for that Barryj, the reason I was asking was because of the reference to crappy bunks etc, and I thought the Ironstone hut to be too new to be in that condition yet.

Following on;
The hut at Lake Nameless is Ironstone Hut and has six bunks and a trestle!. The wall by the fireplace leaks in heavy rain. Sheltered camping is 40m up the hill behind the hut. Lk Ironstone is several km north east of here and a few km further on to the generally unmarked Whiteleys hut; sometimes called Western Ck hut. This hut has two cramped bunks and two half beds!; it leaks like a sieve in heavy rain and the fireplace does fill with water. This is not far from where the western ck track crosses the creek at the end of the big uphill bit. Don't figure on using Western ck track for access after heavy rain either. You have all the lady lake info.
