Wilsons Prom - June (Queens B'Day Weekend

Postby Cycling Guy » Tue 03 Jun, 2014 4:19 pm

Hi All,

Off to Wilsons Prom for a 60.3km 3 day hike this weekend (Queens Birthday long weekend)

Its going to be a cold and wet weekend. How can we make it as enjoyable as possible?

3 people hiking, 1 is very experienced. We all have thermals, wet weather gear (jackets, pants etc...), good tents, sleeping bags and mats etc...... I'm taking a tarp (200g :-( ) just in case, might make putting up tents easier in the rain. Could also use hike poles and tarp as shelter. Even thinking about wearing socks, freezer bags, then socks over the top to keep feet dry and warm :)

So does anybody have any tricks / hints on how to handle the wet weather down at the Prom?

Cheers
Jay

Whenever I've been at the Prom over the Queen's Birthday weekend it's been with dive groups. Our drysuits made the cold and wet conditions barely noticeable, but that's not really practical for you . . .

I have done quite a few winter hikes in the southern section.... it can be cold and wet, and its normally very busy being a long weekend!

Did 4 days in the July school holidays quite a few years ago, cold and wet but we had a day in the middle of clear sunshine... it is Victoria after-all :)

Halfway Hut can be a godsend!
