Yes, they are taking their time to release a conclusion... Yet, it's still a month before market release and many firmware updates after that.

This is Sony. Don't expect much in the way of firmware updates!

Camera looks to be a good upgrade on previous versions though.

Rumor mill says Fuji X30 in the works will have the same size sensor, and there might also be a Panasonic on the go as well.

More coming out of DPR with sample studio images. I don't have experiences with the earlier two versions, but Mk III's IQ is getting some hits from readers.

Fine :) The trade off of an extra stop aperture (at 70mm) and 24mm wide-angle seems a winner to me. Plus, the difference between 70-100mm isn't much, especially when you have 20mp to play with when cropping...

That said, I'm happy sticking with the GR for the moment!

Well.... Looks like I'll be selling the old RX100 mark 1 in a few months at this rate....

The difference in image quality is noticeable, combined with the articulated screen and EVF it's kind of hard to say "no".

I find I rarely use the full extent on the RX100 m1 zoom, actually almost never, 20mp and sharp on the III will crop nicely I expect. It's not quite the same, but it seems like a good compromise given all of the other benefits.

The old lens was supposed to be weaker at full zoom, The new lens is supposed to be good at all its range. So the new one at 70 mm may be just as good when cropped a little (to give the same field of view) as the old one at 100 mm?

Dave

That's about my thinking, but if you can get the composition right on the view finder you're more likely to take a good picture I guess. This is where 100mm is good and where I can kind if so GPSG's point (if he's already got the composition down why crop).

I've found at full zoom (or even a bit before) things aren't very sharp on mine compared to lower zoom levels so I'd not be too shocked to find that the newer lense actually is very close in terms of what's actually usable. Just need to wait until a few more people have managed to get their hands on them before making a call I guess.

On that point, soon many will be able to test it out in real life. It'll be interesting. Assumption until then and didn't hear too many complaints from RX100 proponents before Mk3 was announced.

Why not just turn the digital zoom off in the settings? It'd save having the odd accident.

I may be up for that. I just may upgarde, I like the idea of 24 wide and built in ND filters.

Kogan have the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II for $595 delivered (grey import) with a one-year Australian warranty. This is about $150 cheaper than the best local price I get.

Does it sound like a reasonable deal? Any common warranty issues with the camera or does anyone have experience with Kogan's warranty service?

Thanks

Thanks. I had forgotten about Staticice. A few grey imports around ... just a question as to if they are genuine and the credibility of the sellers.

I got my RX100 Mk1 from Kogan. It came with Australian warranty, not a grey import.

Warranty issues? Well first something must break. Nothing has.

I'm going to buy another RX100 soon for my wife.

The Mark 2 Kogan is offering is defiantly a grey import. They clearly state on the website that there is no manufacturer's warranty plus the shipping time is a dead give-away. The warranty terms and conditions are not that clear cut either more so if the product is supplied by Kogan Hong Kong which seems likely with the camera.

No Mark 3 but which is the model I think I will go with so it becomes a bit mute probably.

I liked the video capability specs of the M3 but was nervous about buying one because at the time I couldn't find lots of real life examples of videos made by non-professionals. Now that I have had the RX100 III for 8 weeks I have been blown away with the quality of the video images it is capable of producing. I work in the outdoors and make lots of videos of my experiences but previously have carried a large Canon XA10 and/or GoPro. I find now though that is the Sony that I reach for as it gets beautiful shots (as good as the 5x heavier XA10) yet it fits in my pocket. I do wish it had an external mic plug and was more weatherproof but these are sacrifices I am willing to accept at this point in time. I don't take many stills these days to be honest but I had a ball taking some night star shots - something I didn't think such a 'compact' camera could actually do. One of the best things about this camera is the easy ability to use manual focusing to create the visual image that I would normally expect only from a DSLR.

If you want to see what a non-pro can do with it before you commit to purchasing one then check out:
(95% of the footage on these comes from the RX100 III)

Ben Lomond Ice climbing movie - https://youtube.com/watch?v=BcGx6Y5X2_0

Walking the Overland Track in winter - https://vimeo.com/101827099

No doubt there are, a couple of months later, better spec'ed cameras already out there but I have been very happy with the camera and the results it gives. I am though certainly nervous about its durability in the environments that I work, play and film in.

I'm interested in how you protected the camera for the footage in the rain.
