Reichelle Boots VERY bad, Did I say bad, sorry meant AWESOME

Bushwalking gear and paraphernalia. Electronic gadget topics (inc. GPS, PLB, chargers) belong in the 'Techno Babble' sub-forum.

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Ive gone back to Garmont!!
Got a pair of Reichelle boots only 6 months ago just under 400 dollars.

Not only were they the first shoe EVER to give me very bad blisters. I just got back from a traverse of the hazards to find the stitching on one side has come undone completey! I can slide 2 fingers right thru to the inners of the shoe!

Needless to say im on my way back to Mountain Design to give them a piece of my mind...... 6 *&%$#! months! thats terrible just under $100 a month for boots!

So yeh gone back to my comfy well loved garmonts and wont hear anyone say anything bad about them!!!

Do you mean Raichle?

I think that all brands have the occasional problems. What would turn me off would be if either:
• the shop and/or manufacturer didn't replace them in a reasonable time frame and without undue hassle
• it happened to a significant percentage of their products

I'll be interested to see what sort of after sales support you get to resolve this issue. Please keep us informed.
(I'm very happy with my Raichles - I've had them for about 5 years, I think).

You've got me worried now. I'd not heard anything bad about them previously. Yikes! I hope mine don't start falling apart. :-)

Hi

Is it possible to post pictures and also give the country of manufacturing. It might be Nik that yours are made in another country. Do they not claim to be Swiss (all I have seen are made in China)? Will be interested to see how you get on with MD. I have heard of another story of an expensive brand failing from MD but I do not know what brand that was. Maybe a fellow Hilleberg Akto fan could give us the low down on that brand  I do believe that MD came good in that case.

When I looked at them they seemed rather light weight compared to the Scarpas so a bulked at the price plus MD did not have my size in (well the usual confusion being 47 is size 12 Uk which is or is not depending on the brand) :? It appears that Scarpa set the upper limit of price and various brands are pitch in under this. Love them or hate them the Scarpa SL do feel like a solid piece of footwear while some other brands that cost almost as much appear rather flimsy.

Cheers Brett

Which model of the Raichle did you break?

I've had a pair of Raichle Mt trails for about 3 years now.
They are the comfiest pair of boots i have ever owned. (tho heavy duty)
Paired up with a pair of Thorlos - i've never had a decent blister even on 10day walks. (only small between the toes ones).
The only damage so far is scuffing on the toe and sole wear.
I can't recommend them highly enough (if they fit that is).
Mine are made in Romania.

Maybe you're pushing your light boots too hard?

Interestingly Raichle website is now part of Mammut so it might be a marketer has assimilated a manufacturer. Also might mean MD has fallen out with Mammut? I suggest that the age of the boot (hint country of origin) might give a better picture of the respective performance of the brand?

Just a few points to help with somewhat overdramatic statements about Raichle.

Firstly, if you have an issue that causes you grief please bring the boots back, they have a very sound warranty and if it is as bad as you say and isn't due to miss use I would replace them on the spot, simple as that. The last thing we want is pissed off customers so of course we are going to do the right thing by you. We have a lot of very satified customers with Raichle and they may not be vocal users of forums so the slant from a few may not be fair. I can recite plenty of stories but the best is someone who bought a pair of MT Trails the day before an Overland Track walk, so no chance to break them in, they made the point of coming back in after the trip to say how comfortable they were and how they were extremely happy with them.

Secondly, MD's has definately not fallen out with Raichle, Mammut has bought the brand and as we were distibutors of both brands anyway we will continue to get them. The boots will now be branded Mammut but are otherwise the same, with a few possible name changes.

I am more than happy to answer any questions about the brands we stock and also some background from inside the industry as I know there always a lot of rumours out there which may not be backed up with fact.

Cheers

I will speak up for Raichle and MD. I had a pair of MD Kanangras that lasted 10 months - Western Arthurs saw to the demise of these...

I then purchased Raichle Scouts from MD in Melbourne. The lacing loops let go on the first walk I did in them. Took them back to MD and they were replaced without problem or query. Raichle are a trusted brand, having been around for many years. I have been using them for over 12 months now and have found them to be comfortable and reliable for lighter weight bushwalking boots.

My two cents worth...

Hi Mark

Have you been in yet? If not I'm in over the weekend and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. We usually refund/replace faulty MDs or exclusive brands on the spot. Stu and Jeramie will tell you we look after them when things go wrong!

We can talk peakbagging and POW plans when you're there!

How's Seth?

Good to see you on here too Ian!

Cheers

 That is the shortest reply i have seen Brett make...

It is very easy though to pick the answers you choose to give on a forum, I wouldnt be happy even if i was the Only poor soul... that ended up barefoot due to quality control. Each persons 'one off' experience is just as relevant. The customer is always right. Even if the details may be incorrect, in general, forming cynical views to retailers obviously comes from a basis of fact. Retail must be a hard row to hoe. Especially these days when consumers are savvy to the markups they always paid and with access to a worldwide market.

It is true that there always seems to be a 'vocal' minority on forums. Its a pity more people dont contribute. Hopefully they dont feel intimidated. It would be great to hear from all the 'guests' and those 'hidden' no matter how little they feel they can add.

EDIT by site admin.
Due to a brain meltdown trying to read a post by Brett as short as this one, an addition had to be made to this post in order for the normal mode of functioning when it comes to reading posts by this user.
A warning has been sent to this user advising not to make posts so short as it does not compute in the grey matter, and after deliberation to the reasoning it was decided that there must be something sinister hidden in the meaning of such an uncharacteristic post.
