walk for an injured person

Postby possytas » Fri 10 Apr, 2015 5:14 pm

Hi. I have plans to go for a walk with a friend who has injured one of her arms (she can't use it at all). She has requested something that is a bit challenging, however doesn't require two arms at any stage. She hasn't done much hiking, however is fit (marathons/triathlons etc). I'm pretty sure she has run over Mt Roland in one of those 'fun' runs.

I'm thinking Mt Field East could be a possibility? I haven't been there, and vaguely recall reading something that made me think there is a bit of a scrabble at the top?

Also thinking Tarn Shelf at Mt Field. I've been to both ends of the Tarn Shelf, but not walked the actual track.

Possibly Collins Bonnet? I have been there, but it was a while ago and I can't remember how scrabbly it was at the top.

Or any number of Mt Wellington tracks - I am more familiar with these so could plan a circuit myself, however personally would prefer to go a bit further afield.

Any thoughts on these options or other suggestions?

All of those are good ideas - although Field East can be a little boggy across Windy Moor. Balance may be harder without use of arms.

Other options could be Mt Wedge or anything on the Tasman Peninsula.

Thanks Pazzar. I had also considered the Peninsula, but maybe a bit far to travel. Might stick with Tarn Shelf.

Hey there possytas,

+1 for Tarn Shelf. I can't remember any reason not to make it a circuit via Lk Webster. You didn't mention her using a walking pole. You may be assuming that, but just in case: i'd strongly recommend she uses one for balance etc.

Yeah, at least for the descent from the shelf down to Twilight & Webster. It's still a bit steepish there.
