Spot on Stu... there is one other campsite with the recycled rubber tiles - its at Fergies Paddock, down by the lake shore.

<late edit> PS - the chair was not carried in - the shot was taken shortly after the trackies finished the work. They had been in the area for some time and the chair is one of the luxuries that they flew in (via chopper)

Thanks Phil. Did you / person in background carry a camp chair all the way in with you? Luxury!
Hope this one is not too dark;
most everyone will recognise the features in this one & should be able to work back to where I am...

Spot on Nick, looking west from Mt Bobs.
A great, if a little difficult, summit for those who haven't been there.
Crest Range in the foreground;
Mt Hopetoun & Piguenit behind in right mid-ground;
Federation Peak, Eastern Arthurs & Western Arthurs in the background.
Over to you...

Given the high quality of scree, cliffs and clearfelling, I'd place my bets on one of the North Eastern peaks.
Was initially thinking of Old Bills Monument on Ben-Lomond Plateau (up above Carr-Villa), but don't think the cliffs are quite big enough.
Alternatively, how about Ben Nevis?

I was thinking along the same lines as kramster and have been up Stacks Bluff twice and it all seems quite familiar.........so I'm going to say Wilmot Bluff?

hey kramster you should trust your initial instincts! and the cliffs we were on were pretty big.
I guess its hard to decipher what part of the plateau I'm on as there is logging all around ben lomond :?

kramster - not sure where NickS has gone - but you were definitely correct with your first answer of Old Bill's Monument.
Nick's 2nd photo clearly shows the Carr-Villa

Ok, this one should be recognisable by any southerners.

Sphinx Rock it is (well done dee_legg, coming in 1 minute after I posted!). I'd say most people would be familiar with the Sphinx Rock lookout (just above this pic) - a short walk from The Springs on Mt Wellington, but don't bother to explore below to see the neat rock formations.

Anyway - time for another pic... you're up Dee :)

Anyway, onwards!

Where did everyone go?
We were on a roll for awhile. We actually put through 5 photos yesterday.

Nick S - on my first trip to Tasmania I drove up to the top and walked to Legges Tor. But that is all.
I felt I could confirm by using the LIST and comparing with google satellite - which shows up your hut and parking area very clearly.
And the fact that I thought you had already said he had it right.
That is an area I would be interested to explore further - when I get down my list of must do's.

dee_legg
This is a grandstand view of Mt Wedge which probably places you on top of the Sentinal Range

When I grew up on Yorke Peninsula I didn't really explore it. When its local you tend to think "another day".

I think when you visit a far away place you can try to cram a lot in because you know you are only there for a short time.
It also helps if you do all the easy bits - day walks or no more than 2 nights out prior to last year. There are a lot of long walks I have never done.
And a few tourist locations I have never been - Flinders Is, the North West / Arthur River and North East corners.
But Tasmania is fairly compact and the earlier visits to Tasmania involved driving right around the island - on one occassion we went around it twice.
And always visited for a full month.
There is plenty still to see - on our last visit on the last day we went to St Columba Falls and just happened to poke our nose up a dingy little mountain track.
Before too long we emerged up next to Mt Victoria and ended up walking the Ralph Falls circuit. A complete surprise. We had no idea any of this was there.

As for what I know about - you can blame scrub master for some of that. He does the real bushwalking (like Bobs Knobs & Vanishing Falls) and he used to show us slides from his trips when he was still a South Aussie. But when at Uni I did have the entire South West of Tasmania in 1:100,000 maps carefully arranged on a kitchen wall and would study it intensely. I think that you would call me a dreaming tragic.

I see dee_legg is up late too.

Now for a really easy one (crosses fingers) - but you should click on it to blow it up a bit.

You don't have to walk to this spot if you are pressed for time.

Haven't been there but being that high, is it Ben Lomond plateau?

No - not that high.
A clue would be to identify a few of the peaks in the extensive array in the distance.
It may be possible that the answer to this will surprise some.
I must admit - we visited 3 times last trip and this was the only day with a clear view.

summit of Mt Wellington looking to the west - PB , feders Picton and everything else in the SW are all clearly visible on the horizon. It's hasn't been like that up there for a couple on months now.

Wow...have never seen the view to the west that clear, didn't realise you could see so much, I was soooo far off, shouldn't play this game

On the contrary - stepbystep, making bloopers is the way to learn.
You may notice I have made quite a few on this game.
I suspect a lot of folk go to the top and just look out over Hobart.
But it offers a very extensive view over the south west - although this pano was stitched from zoom shots.
PS - I also have a photo from Wellington with the whole Ben Lomond plateau quite clear. That is a lot of Tasmania visible from the top.

Your turn scrub master.

I won't be attempting this one - as scrub master already sent me a copy. [he may have forgotten]
And at the moment I have put this potential area on the back burner. Maybe in 2 years time.
Go for it people - and remember dumb questions is the way to get the answers.

I reckon it's somewhere near the POW range, is that Diamond peak in the distance?
What about on the Loddon range. Mt King william on the left? Bit of a guess really.
