air mat on slatted bunks

I am going to be at a scout camp next weekend, in cabins.

They have the usual foam mats that look very thick and therefore probably uncomfortable for me as I prefer a firm bed.

I have been sleeping at home on my Exped Downmat, I am pondering taking it with me.

Has anyone used such a thing on a slatted bed base, one with gaps between the slata? Photos look like about 2" between the slats. Will the gaps damage the mat? Will the mat sink between the gaps and end up uncomfortable? The bunk room will be full or close to, so probably no chance to sleep on the floor.

I wouldn't expect a comfortable night just with an exped on the slats and there is certainly the risk of damage to the exped. 2"between slats allows a fair bit of mat to sink between the slats and rub/tear on the edges as you move during the night. I have used a mat on the standard hut foam mattress and with suffient air in them it does overcome some of the saggy softness. Floor is better but can't always manage perfection.

I will take the downmat and try it on top of the hut mattress if the mattress is too soft.

Probably not as bad as a hut in NZ which had very saggy chain link mesh as a bed base. I was in serious pain by about halfway through the night and ended up sleeping on the floor in the kitchen...
