Not Mauna Loa GPS but technically this location is part of that landform.
MickyB wrote:Kilauea Iki Crater?

Spot on MickyB, Kilauea Iki Crater it is (in it and overlooking it). I spent most of a longish day on Kilauea by myself just wandering up and down the trails in the area, and still didn't see everything,

Thanks johnw. Must admit I had no idea until you narrowed it down to Hawaii. Made the research a lot easier.

Back to NZ. Where was I standing or what am I looking at?

Close enough Graham. I am looking at Lyttleton Harbour but from Mt Cavendish (top of the Gondola).

Over to you :D

Thanks Micky. I did mean that but I forgot the name of the place the gondola went to and relied on Google Maps.

This one is in Asia.

Yes, certainly does.

Ok, staying in Asia and another area of interesting geological 'rock' formation. To help it along, it's some 600+km to the NW of Halong Bay. Name the location then the geology for extra points.

Thanks wobbly, only in my dreams :). The Patagonia region remains on my list of desires.

USA again, this is in a notable wildlife corridor in a famous NP. No background view for clues except trees and snow, so I'll accept the general location and name of the species.

Ursus americanus,

In the western mountains.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

Yes I'll pay that icefest, not an easy one to be more specific - I just like the photo. It's definitely Ursus americanus (American black bear). This one is female and she had a cub nearby. I'm somewhere near Tower Falls in Yellowstone NP. Technically probably on or close to the Absaroka Range in Wyoming, which fits the Western Mountains description.

That's a shame. I've done all 3 ways of going b/n SF and LA and have to say Route 1 was a fun drive, followed by 5. 101 was a bit of neither here nor there. And with your prompting, I've got the spot flagged for a future trek or camp. :)

In the meantime, I'm a bit caught on various things and won't be able to get to my photos. I invite someone who hasn't participated to jump right in and test the group, or anybody if no one forthcoming.
Just move it!
