TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Looking for 4 Person tent , need advice

Postby Sammy75 » Tue 17 Nov, 2015 6:01 pm

Hello, me and my family are totally new to camping. We are searching for a 4 person tent in the 100$ range, can be more.

After reading reviews for the past days we want to go with this one:

http://www.greatoutdoorproductstore.com/product/airblasters-instant-tent-4-person-camping-lightspeed-outdoors-ample-family-hiking-waterproof/

It is cheap and the functions seems reasonable for the price. Before we buy it, I wanted to ask you guys, what do you think of it? Can i get a better one for the same price?

Much thanks in advance, Sam. :)

Hi Sam. Are you after a tent for bushwalking, or car camping? The one you have linked is likely very heavy if you plan on carrying it anywhere.

I had a look at the specs but all I could find was "shipping weigh 7lbs" and dimensions 10"x8"
IF it is for backpacking, packed size is also important.

Welcome to the forum Sammy.

The tent in the link you provided is being sold through Amazon and they will not ship it to Australia.

Without knowing too much about your needs, I went and had a gander at what we have in that price bracket. The little Oztrail Tasman 4V has a couple of positive reviews, including from one customer that mentions that he carries one on the back of his "motorbike when I go on my annual bike run north".

At 4.8kg, even if you are hiking with it, you'll be able to spread the weight out over a few packs - fly in one, tent in another, pegs and poles in another... It's better suited to car camping though.

If you move up a few notches in price, a whole world of family dome tents erupts.

Would it be better to look into two 2P tents? Better flexibility over the long run.
Just move it!

Not for 50$ each.

Though I guess you could use one for spares if it broke.

It's very difficult finding anything at that price.

That's true. The price point is very tight for anything. Though there are many decent options on Aliexpress, might as well go to the source of cheap tents than pay another margin to the local retailer.
Just move it!

That'd be the ticket. Probably the best at that price.
