Vera hut bed bugs

Another group that stayed in the hut recently reported the same, although they thought Tahune was the culprit. LOVE MY TENT.

Stayed at Vera 2 nights and Tahune 2 nights last November no problems at all ?

Both huts have had treatments in the last week. Stayed at both, no bugs!

Given the weather this week, I love my tent but prefer the huts.

PWS flew in an exterminator about a month ago who treated the hut.
since then pws crew have treated the hut the same way twice (not just with bug bombs) and seems to have worked.
i stayed there one night and the lady who was sleeping in the 'problem area' never had any issues. i would say they are under control, if not totally eliminated until someone brings a dirty sleeping bag with more or they hatch from somewhere hidden.

I know someone who was there a week after you (first week of December) and had huge problems with bedbugs..

Given that I didn't suffer bed bugs, I hope I didn't bring them in, nor take any away with me!

Is there a process to protect the sleeping gear from bugs? What is their lifecycle, and how do we interrupt it?

We went in last weekend. Myself and another guy slept on our mats on the flow and didn't have an issue.
One guy slept of the bunks and got bitten by bed bugs.
I don't think they have gotten rid of them.

Dang bed bugs! Going to be heading lake Vera and Tahune next week.

Have just washed and refreshed our down sleeping bags too so want to avoid the bugs as I don't want to have to clean the bags again haha

I was wondering about this the other day.

How about making a light sleeping bag cover and treating it with permethrin?

And/or a sheet under the bag, also treated?

You can always carry a tent and camp. No bedbugs at the campsites.

I think your correct NNW.. Best to camp and avoid the possible hassle altogether..

Is funny how some people are more affected by insect bites then others. My friends and GF always get smashed while i get to sit there all smug and unscathed..

We stayed at Tahune as well and didn't have any issues.
There are lots of good camping at Vera a bit further along the track past the hut.
Tahune has limited camping
Not sure what the solution is.....maybe close the hut to sleeping and starve them out??

Slept on the provided mats at Tahune and Vera 3 weeks ago, no worries, no bugs.

Very busy over Easter,
Hopefully the fuel stove fumes have cleaned them out!!!

Vera was packed over Easter, no one mentioned a problem about bed bugs to me. I was in my tent though so cant confirm for sure.
