Thanks eggs, my brief and distant memory of Switzerland is endless wonderful views.

USA again. A bit offbeat, what is it and where?

This spot is not on the US mainland. The particular plant species is endangered and only found in this general vicinity at elevations above 2,100 metres (6,900 ft).

Good work MickyB, that's exactly what it is. Haleakala Silversword growing near the visitor centre not far below the 10,000 ft summit.

Thanks John. What an extremely interesting plant. Unfortunately the one in your photo is about to die.

Anyone can post next.

The plant can live for up to 50 years (or 90 depending on what you read) but they only flower once. The flower produces thousands of seeds which the wind blows away so they can grow else where. Once this happens the plant dies soon afterwards.

eggs, I've only been there once, back in the early 90's, but I think you are somewhere near Edinburgh Castle - on the Royal Mile/Golden Mile?

Yeh, spot on - but it was my daughter's photo when she was there.

Sorry for the delay. If I ever get back to Scotland I would want to explore the natural areas more. The West Highlands in particular - I think Ben Nevis can be done as a challenging day hike.

A bit cheeky, but here is one in a similar vain. Where are these inner urban adventurers in the USA below a busy city street:

Correct, Denver is all I needed GPS. This is at Confluence Park on the South Platte River, between Speer Blvd and 15th Street, right outside the REI outdoor gear flagship store (where I bought some bits and pieces for much less than at home :)).
