Mt Bobs Precipitation

Mt Bobs has ranked several mentions in recent weeks amongst the state's highest rainfall measurements on the ABC's nightly weather report.

Which begs the questions:

1. Is there a weather station on Mt Bobs?

2. Who is checking it on a daily basis?

There are lots of automated remote weather stations many of them off the beaten track in spots that you can't exactly get to easily.

I've seen a few around the places.. e.g.
There is one out tucked away below Pelion West a couple of Km's out across Pine Forest Moor in the middle of nowhere..
On Mt Frederick - part of the Mt Weld Range a good couple of hours scrub bash to get to.

I didn't know about the one near Bobs - its referred to as North Boomerang on the BOM website.

They don't need manual checking - they're equiped with solar panels and I assume they use UHF radio or satellite to send data.

Which reminds me, a couple of years ago coming across a pole several meters high with welded steps out on the plateau behind Clumner Bluff. No weather recording devices attached. Just a pole...

Ohhh ... how sad!! I had this image of a wizened bushwalking retiree (not unlike my self??) staggering the 7 hours each way, up and back, twice a day, to read the instruments. Wait on ... that would require a 28 hour day! Or perhaps our wizened friend is a tiger-walker?! YESSSS - that must be it!

Please, PLEASE let me cling to my fantasy!!

Robots enjoy the solitude of the bush too. But they only have to check the records once a day, at 9am, so they go out overnight and come back during daylight.

Don't forget that the BOM aren't the only people with weather stations. DPIPWE have several also, although I was not aware of one at Mt Bobs or the Boomerang.

Fair call MrWalker, I guess robots deserve their wilderness refreshment too. I wonder if their need for water explains the mysterious changing water levels in Lake Sydney?? Am I onto something here?
