Gift card dilemna ?

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Gift card dilemna ?

Postby Moondog55 » Fri 23 Sep, 2016 7:15 am

I have a Patagonia Australia gift card here
Of reasonable value too
BUT
There is nothing at Patagonia I need or want and what I do want has been deleted from Patagonias line-up and the information I have received is that the garments will not be reappearing in the foreseeable future.
I'd get something for The Boss but there is nothing in Patagonias womens range that will fit anybody above a skinny size 12 female and my beloved is a cuddly size 16+ and I like her that way

If I sell the gift card what is the normal discount that applies?
Ebay has DAS pants available and really that is the only Patagonia garment I'm interested in after the shopping trip in New York last year
Would be easier I know if I wasn't an XL/XXL in pants and jackets.

As I emailed Patagonia head office a while ago "Bring back the Puff=Balls"

If I was to use the gift card to get something made by Patagonia what should I buy?
I'm impressed by the R-3 hoodie but that garment is a seriously warm mid-layer and won't fit under my current down parka

Took a drive to Torquay to try stuff on, nothing I need or want there at all and the R-3 hoodies are no better really then than R-1 hoodie I have, a little lighter and warmer but not worth buying just to use the card up Nothing suitable for Cecile either

I should know in the next week or two whether I have a research contract bridging from my PhD until my job starts. If I do I would be interested, unless someone beats me too it.

It is about 2/3 done, to be submitted on the 31st of October. Usually takes 3 to 6 months to get the review back and changes made. The end is near!

Most of the work is published, or soon to be, in academic journals. I hopefully won't have to make many changes after submission. When the corrections are completed I will be moving on to something a little different for my first job.

I am in computational/mathematical physics, looking at plasmas (ionised gas). I currently look at how we can use sound waves in the sun to measure properties of sunspots (which are large magnetic field structures). This is tricky because of the effects magnetic fields have on these waves. We wish to understand their structure, formation and evolution because the magnetic energy held with-in provides the energy for eruptive events like solar flares. So to predict solar flares early, we need to understand sunspots + solar magnetic fields better, in order to protect our satellites, power grids and other systems.

I am hoping to stay in science as long as possible, before the inevitable move to business optimisation/logistics or finance.
