It was Rose Adam's house at Cockle Ck. I believe she died last year aged 101 after living there for most of her life until she was 95. She would chat with bushwalkers coming off the S C Track telling stories of the old days.
She went there with her husband in the early 1930s and they caught crayfish out of a dingy. "so big that two would fill a sugar bag". Soon they had a huon pine boat and would take bags of tin ore out from Melaleuca for Charles King.
After she sold the boat it was wrecked at Macquarie Harbour.
She was the last resident of the SW.

Looks like sunrise over Pelion East from the climb up Ossa.
Its not from the top - I suspect from the start of the traverse through and up the gully and above the height of adjacent Mt Doris

Eggs - we had left Pelion around 4am, and were hoping to see the sunrise from the top of tassie, but could only reach the start of the gully/false summit section as there was a sheet of hardened snow to cross, and we had no gear, plus it was dark

Turned out alright though.

re your photo, howabout from Mt Owen looking toward Eldon Peak.
First I thought it was from Mt Lyell, but I reckon that's the mt in the foreground and there is a bit zoom used.
If correct someone else please post, I should go study.

Well done Nick.

This is from the rough road up Mt Owen. It is a scramble to the top over bare rock and earth, but this view cannot be seen from the very top.
The historic part of the photo is the view of the King River in the valley. This is now covered by Lake Burbury.
The tail of Mt Lyell is indeed the close in ridge on the left - with the dramatic white of Marble Bluff behind and then Eldon Peak with Cradle and Barn Bluff merging on the horizon.

Another quiet weekend - must be good weather with everyone out walking.

So it looks like Precipitous Bluff - but fairly close in- probably past Mt Wylly.
Perhaps heading along the Kameruka Moraine?

Correct, PB from Kameruka Moraine, looking over Low Camp to The Waterfall.
(I was going to try to crop off the sea to the left, but it still would have been easy to guess.)

Right sort of area, but this is on a named peak to the east of Riggs Pass.

Looks like an extra clue is in order.

The ridge running across the photo 2/3rds up connects a rather rounded peak on the left with a very CRA...ggy one on the right.
And in the valley between the 2 ridges is one of the best huts in Tas. [In my opinion] :wink:

Tricky one eggs - that looks like Pelion West and Achilles in the background. And is Mt Emmett one of the mountains you're referring to? So if lots of zoom is involved, are you on Benson Pk (part of Cradle Mt)? And is Windermere Hut the one you're referring too??

Pelion West is in the photo - but not Mt Achilles.
Mt Emmett is one of the mountains (on the left). Benson/Cradle is the one on the right side.
I am north of Cradle and the A frame hut is next to a lake but not on the Overland Track - but a favourite alternative track.
Where I am used to have a chain to assist people up - but other posts seem to indicate the chain is no longer in place?

[Note the other peak next to Pelion West is Perrins Bluff and to its right in the distance is High Dome.
Scott-Kilvert is a large 2 story hut next to Lake Rodway]
