Saw this animal on the road out to Badgers Head in the north today.
Pretty sure it was a Devil. Looked like it had mange the same as Wombats have been getting.
Can anyone help to explain it or forward the pics onto someone who can?

I don't know what was wrong with it other than what you see there. I suspect it was quite blind as initially it started moving towards the car when I stopped.
To me it looked just like a wombat with mange. Ive seen a few around lately and this was similar.
Might put the picture on facebook and see if it can get shared around until someone figure it out.

Apart from the wide area alopecia, the abdomen seemed to be grossly swollen for whatever reason. Awful!

An old devil towards the end of it's days. Iv'e not seen to that extent either but they do loose hair.

Showed this thread to a friend who is doing his phd around the devil facial tumour disease and his response was along the lines of:
...the hair loss can be a symptom of DFTD, as far as I'm aware it isn't caused by a separate type of cancer. It could be, but it's not something I've ever seen a devil diagnosed with personally. On the other hand, I have seen quite a few devils with DFTD that are exhibiting that kind of extensive hair loss - given that the devil in the pic definitely has DFTD I would attribute it to that...
