Access to Table Mountain

Postby whynotwalk » Wed 25 Nov, 2009 1:08 pm

I noticed a brief mention of Table Mountain recently. I've always meant to go there, but never have. It looks accessible via either the Bothwell-Interlaken road, or the Oatlands-Interlaken road. Does anyone know the best access route?

cheers

Hiya WNW (whynotwalk)
We did it by taking the c528 from bothwell and just waitied til we got as close as the GPS would tell us, then went off track towards it. pretty soon we picked up forestry roads and followed a maze of these (Lots of intersections) until we were very close, about 500mtrs away. Then just went off track again up a big scree slope to the summit.

It's a fantastic mountain, one I really really enjoyed climbing! Like I said there are many many forestry roads, so a GPS is VERY handy to make sure you take the right ones on the way back. Also you could maybe ring forestry and ask them about using the roads to get you a stones throw away.

It took us about 3 hrs return from the c528
Nothing to see here.

WNW - If you turn off C528 at the Mt Serat property you can drive pretty close to Table Mtn along farm roads and across paddocks. You just need to ask permission at the homestead there. I'd avoid the area in deer hunting season though! :)
Here are a few photos from a trip in May this year:

Thanks Rohan - that's very helpful ... and quite inviting too, by the look of your pix,

cheers

Concur with Rohan about deer hunting season. On the only trip I have done there, we came across some unusual scats. It wasn't until we hit a road later in the day and saw a deer looking at us that we realised the connection. In deer hunting season - whenever that is- you could get caught in some cross fire!
I was a bit disappointed with the number of new roads in there - you can almost drive to the foot of the mountain.
Cheers
Andrew
