Suggestions needed for trip tomorrow!

Postby Seamus » Thu 26 Nov, 2009 3:46 pm

I'm wondering if any locals would be kind enough to make a recommendation for a hike in Tas this Sat-Tue. We had planned to do the Mt Anne circuit, but the forecast is Sat: rain, Sun: showers easing, Mon: drizzle clearing, Tue: fine. We're still considering camping at Shelf camp for a short day on day 2 (Sun), and then doing the more difficult walking (and Anne herself) on Mon in drizzle. "Drizzle clearing" can mean many things, however, and safety could be a concern in the wet, coming through the Notch. Our backup plan is 4 days in the Walls of Jerusalem. Based on the forecast, would anyone make a recommendation out of these two?

Thanks in advance.

We are planning on the Anne circuit in Jan. Have been to Eliza 3 times with good to reasonable weather, but we turned back from an attempt on Anne in a gale and intermittent mist.
It will be our first attempt at the circuit, and we are going in reverse direction. That approach would seem to suit your weather forecast better.
I cannot answer for the notch in "clearing drizzle" on the Monday, but Shelf to Anne to exit via Eliza is all doable in a day.
I have been on Schnells in miserable weather - and have had horror stories from some who have been on the exposed plateau in gales.
There is a recent post with photos on a party cutting across from the NE ridge to Eliza in a gale.

I think the walls would be safer in high wind and rain. Lots of slippery boulders to negotiate on the Mt Anne circuit
Nothing to see here.
